Personal Statement
My name is James Hughes. I stand at 6"6 and weigh in at 220lbs. My goal in life since a young age was to play competitive college basketball in the USA and then make a career out of it playing professionally somewhere across the world.
After I finish college i aspire to play either back home in Australia competing in one of the various professional basketball leagues e.g. SEABL, BIG V, NBL. Or continue my career overseas in another country.
I'm a good candidate because I work hard, listen to instructions given, take on positive and negative feedback without remorse, I am talented at this sport and confident in my skills and abilities as a player and I am very encouraging and supportive of my team mates. I am willing to make sacrifices if it helps out the team and will do anything to help lead the team to victory.
I believe my strengths as a player are my passing, shooting, court vision, decision making, defense in side the paint, rebounding, encouragement and communication. I look at myself as a stretch power forward who is an all round player.
In Australian schooling my academic success comes in the form of English, maths and sport related subjects. Academically I may not be the most intelligent but I try hard and put my mind into my studies. If basketball does not present it self as a career option I would like to find a career in sports journalism.
