Personal Statement
Basketball has played a big role in my life, it has helped me become the person I am today. I started playing basketball when I was ten years old after my friends introduced me to it, and from that point on, I fell in love with the game and everything about it.
My parents have always encouraged me and got me to play in many different teams, even signing me up to play against people over four years older than me. At the time, I had no idea what it was teaching me, yet on reflection, I understand it was about hard work, discipline, adaption to failures, and the ability to persevere when things got tough. As I got older, I realised basketball was more than a game as it impacts how people live their lives. What basketball taught me will stay with me for the rest of my life.
About my game… I have a great ability to find open teammates and get them the ball in the right spot at the right time. My long arms and athletic ability help me play defence at a very high level, which I take pride in. I will dive on the floor whenever there is a loose ball, and I do all the hustle plays, which my coaches love, and often, these plays end up with us winning the game. I make these plays because I do absolutely everything I can to win the game for my team, and whether it's a win or loss, I know I have given it everything I have; I leave nothing on the floor. Often, opposition coaches approach me and my coaches to compliment and acknowledge my impact on a game, which is quite heartwarming.
Now, about my attitude toward getting better. I have a history of outworking everyone around me, which has assisted me in progressing to better teams every year and making a positive impact on each of those teams. This hard work and dedication has allowed me to reach my state's highest level of basketball for my age. My hard work on the court, in the gym and in the classroom has helped me improve my life significantly, and I will be looking to continue this hard work at the collegiate level. I am looking for a college where I can push myself to grow both in the classroom and on the basketball court. I am open to all opportunities and want to ultimately find the right college with a coach who can mentor me to bigger and better things.
Thank you for your time and for learning a little about me and who I am. I hope to hear from you soon.
