One of the benefits of attending a smaller school is the opportunity to play multiple sports. During the past two school seasons as a 7th and 8th grader, I was a four-sport athlete. I participated in Football, Basketball, Track & Field, and Baseball. On top of that, I also dedicated myself to the school’s year-round weight lifting program which I will continue going forward. Outside of school sports, I have been a part of a traveling baseball team the past 6 years – including playing on 2 different teams during the 2022 season. In the spring of 2023, I joined an AAU basketball team for the first time, which took my passion for basketball to new heights.
Each of these sports has helped develop valuable skills that will be beneficial once I get to high school and ultimately as I strive to play in college. In football, I played running back on offense and OLB on defense. In Track & Field, I was a conference champion in the high jump at 5'7" as an 8th grader and ran various sprints and medleys. In baseball, I primarily play CF/LF and also pitch. All of these sports have allowed me to showcase my athleticism. Competing in team sports as well as individual events with various coaches and teammates has helped me grow mentally as an athlete.
In basketball, I consider myself a slasher with a jumper! I can play and defend all 5 positions, but my build is likely best suited to play shooting guard at the college level. I enjoy playing basketball anytime I can. I have played in multiple 5v5 and 3v3 tournaments. At one of the tournaments, I also competed in a 7th/8th grade slam dunk contest – which I won as a 7th grader! Basketball runs in my family. My mom holds multiple high school records and was a scholarship basketball player in college. On Sunday nights, my dad and I go to the gym to play pickup games. Most other nights I shoot hoops in our driveway with my brother and sisters.
I’ve been told many times that playing sports is a privilege and that athlete comes second in the term student-athlete. I work hard to get good grades and carry my competitive spirit into the classroom. At this point, I am undecided on what career I want to pursue in college. I am hoping to find a great fit where I can continue my academic and athletic career after high school and make some great memories along the way!
