Coaches, my name is Sam Gibson. I am from the Northern Kentucky area (just South of Cincinnati, OH). I live with my parents (Jamie and John Gibson) and my younger sister (Sophia Gibson). My father played football for the University of Kentucky 1993-1994 until he was injured and finished his athletic career playing basketball for Northern Kentucky University 1994-1997.
From the time I could remember, I love playing the game of basketball. I tried numerous other sports when I was younger, but nothing interested me more than playing basketball. I decided very early on that basketball is what I wanted to pursue into college if possible. I love competing and trying to win very early on while playing Elementary/Middle School basketball at St. Joseph (Cold Spring). That is where I was able to learn the fundamentals and techniques that would make the team successful. During those years I was not only able to learn the skills to be successful, I was able to play for my dad my entire Elementary and Middle school years. I was able to share in all our team successes with my dad, something that not any of the other kids on my team got to do. It was difficult and trying sometimes when we or I weren't playing well, but it taught me a set of standards that I carry with me today. High School basketball at Holy Cross HS has been great. We have had successful teams and accomplished a lot during my first years at Holy Cross. This being my Senior year, there is added pressure of leaving it all out there. We have a good team and are expecting to win a lot of games as one of the favorites in our Region. Doing my part will be a big part of our success and I have been preparing for this moment since I arrived at HC.
Academically, I am still unsure at this time of what I would like to study once I get to college, however I am excited to learn about numerous areas of opportunities that may be out there. Some majors that sound like they would be interesting would be Business, Economics, and Education. I am looking forward to being a part of a college team and a college community.
Being 7'0" tall has it's advantages on the court at times. Although it is difficult to find clothes that fit and I have to order all my shoes online. Not many stores carry the sizes that I need. I like to use my footwork and size to my advantage, as I pride myself on being a great defender that can score around the basket or step out and knock down shots off the pick and pop. Getting myself in excellent shape and stronger this off season was an emphasis since the season ended last year. My senior season can't get here soon enough!
Look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you for your time.
