I have been around the game of basketball since the very beginning of my life. At just three days old I attended my first game. My dad was the head basketball coach at my future high school so it was straight from the hospital to the gym.
I began playing basketball competitively in the fourth grade; I was on a travel ball team out of Owensboro, KY. Basketball has taught me many life lessons with the most important thing being a part of something bigger than myself. The game of basketball is not a “me” game, and I am not a “me” player. I am not a “me” first point guard. The strength of my game is my basketball IQ. I know basketball is preparing me for my future. My Dad has told me that basketball is like my job right now. I want to show up every time there is a team activity, give 110% effort, and all the hard work will pay off in the end.
To me, my biggest accomplishment on the court has been being the starting point guard on our 11th District Championship team. We had a team with a lot of talent, so it was my job to get my teammates the ball in the best situation for them, hit the open jumper, and make my free throws at the end of the games. We finished 27-5, matching the best record in school history.
I know that hard work pays off. I have been playing varsity basketball since 7th grade, during that year I was the smallest person on the team. Since then I have dedicated myself to the weight room and this past year I was starting varsity as a sophomore and playing a very important role on a team that had the capabilities of being very successful. The teams I have played on have won 77 games, the most wins at my school in a four year period.
I currently play on Team Walden 2019 AAU Team.
I love basketball, but I know my education comes first and will be a very important factor in where I decide to go to college. I just recently took the ACT in June and received a score of 23, but I know I am not finished and I have 2 years to achieve my goals there as well.
