For as long as I can remember I’ve been interested in sports. From a very young age sports became such a large part of my life, I could barely fathom life without them. For years I balanced many sports such as soccer, volleyball, cross country and track. Although I enjoyed all of them, ultimately when the time came to focus on one, I knew it was basketball.
It feels as if everything fades away and gets easier when I play basketball, but it’s not just a distraction it’s my ultimate focus. When I realized basketball was the sport I wanted to devote the largest part of myself to, my immediate reaction was to advance my skills. I not only got in the gym and worked on the physicality of the sport, I did research on what my place in the sport could be. I practiced during vacations, in the heat outdoors, and in gyms, because I not only wanted to prove myself personally and improve, but I also wanted to prove myself to the sport.
Playing basketball has taught me about teamwork, accepting and growing from losses, determination and most importantly it has taught me about myself. Basketball is a sport, I respect, love and enjoy and I will continue to dedicate myself to it for as long as possible.
