My name is Zaire Lawrey. I am a 6'1", 145 lbs, 76” wingspan, 9th grade class of 2025 combo-guard. I am a 14 year old twin and my sister and I are both AP/honor students at Northwood High School in Silver Springs, Maryland. I am currently enrolled in the Montgomery County College Program (MC2) at Northwood where I will earn an Associates Degree while earning my high school diploma. I have always had a love for math but found that my love for basketball was more. I think I should thank my sister more because she helped me expand my competitive nature. My dad told me I first picked up a basketball at the age of 2 and instantly fell in love. I started playing organized sports at the age of 4 where my parents’ wanted to expose me to a variety of things. They had me playing football, baseball, soccer, gymnastics, judo, boxing, piano and of course basketball. Some were for a little while others were longer, few still happening but the one I constantly played was basketball. I continued to play multiple sports and activities until 6th grade, finally focusing my training and energy on basketball. I understand that “hard work beats talent that doesn’t work hard” any day. I know I have the talent and the work ethic to take me to the next level and beyond. I know that I am a student of the game and strive to make myself and my teammates better every time I am on a court. On the court I pride myself on being a motivator and a leader, who doesn’t mind doing the little things to assist my team to get the win. I am very coachable with a high basketball IQ. My efforts have gotten me various invites to camps such as Hoop Group Elite and Oak Hill Academy Coach Smith Elite Camp. Off the court I maintain my academic focus while also contributing to my community by being a class-aid in childrens’ church, volunteering at my church’s food pantry and clothing drives. These activities also help me to understand not to take anything in life for granted.
