Hi My name is Makai Shepardson
I am currently in 12th grade in high school. I play two Varsity sports, Basketball and Soccer. I believe playing multiple sports helps my physical performance with the other. For example, I am known for my quick footwork on defense on the basketball court which playing soccer has taught me. I am highly motivated; and driven. I have pushed myself to get into the best physical shape as possible. Playing sports has taught me so many important life skills; such as adversity, team work, time management, sportsmanship and mental/physical heath. Taking care of my mental health and self care is the most important thing I have learned this season. It took me sometime to develop confidence as a young player on Varsity I had to learn my role on the team and find ways to help out. I use my speed and quick hands to create steals and dish off to my team mate or if I am open then I will drive to the hoop. I believe it's more important to make everyone around me better. I don't need to be the highest scorer on the team. I want to do everything possible to win the game.
I live with my mom and my little brother, Leo. I am a role model and I help my mom around the house. I teach my little brother that academics come first; you can be a great athlete but your mind is the most important thing to develop. I coached his team this year for biddy basketball. Being a big brother has taught me that someone is always watching my actions. I need to always find the positive and show great character even when times get tough. I have learned that true leadership is shown during a loss; winning games is always fun but the learning experiences come from the times I have lost!
