I've played basketball since I was 7, I started playing competitively once I was 12. Since I was cut from my 7th grade team, I've been working everyday as hard as possible to improve my game. It pushed me to always look to getting better. I've had some obstacles along the way, but I pushed through and meet every obstacle that has come my way.
I go to my community center to practice basketball and lift weights 6-7 days a week. I've had coaches that have impacted my skill level, one of which does private morning practices with me at a nearby facility. Some people tell me I have the nicest shot they've seen, and I'm still working to improve it everyday. I've been gaining a lot more weight and getting stronger from protein and weight lifting, which has helped me muscle in for easy layups and block shots. I struggled academically in my freshman year, but that's what is motivating me to focus more on my education and finding a good support system at school.
I never showboat or talk trash, but seeing others behave in that way has driven me to be not only a good student athlete, but also a good person off the court. I will motivate my teammates if we're not doing so well, telling them what we should be looking for to beat our opponents. When I score, I don't focus on that basket, I always think of what I need to do to help my team more- on defense, making the extra pass, getting the rebound, or putting up another shot. I would be a good candidate because I can spread the floor, shoot from anywhere, and I know defense is the way to win games.
