Hi my name is Gavin Golick and I started playing basketball at a very young age. My dad was a high school basketball coach for twenty years, so I would go and watch his games since I was an infant. Basketball has always been a big part of our family; my mother, father and younger brother are a big factor in my life on and off of the court.
I am now into my senior year and have been working extremely hard for the upcoming season. I look forward to getting back on the floor with my teammates and winning a championship this season! College basketball has always been a goal for me. Just to get a chance to play college basketball would be a dream come true.
On the court, I can shoot the ball very well, mix it up down low and use my size to my advantage. Offensively, I can play off of the ball to create opportunities for myself and work to set my teammates up. I take extreme pride in my defense and make it a focal point of my game. The game of basketball is unique in that it creates bonds with teammates and opportunity to create lifelong memories and lessons. I love playing for my teammates, school and community.
In addition, mental toughness is a huge part of life and I take pride in being as mentally tough as I can. I always try to keep my emotions in check and not let one moment define me. I try not to get my emotions too high or too low in a given point in time. I am very coachable and I have a very high basketball IQ. My father would always take time to teach me ways to improve my game and get better as a player. I have a very strong work ethic and always make the best of opportunities to improve and implement those improvements into game situations.
In the off-season, I play AAU basketball as a way to keep my skills at a high level and constantly working on my game. Also, I attend many workouts and training sessions. I love being in the weight room, working hard to get stronger in preparation for varsity basketball.
My volunteer work focuses on helping younger children with basketball. I helped out with middle school fundraisers which incorporates 3v3 basketball games to raise money for the school. During the summers, I have volunteered my time helping run basketball camps and coach the youth teams at Seneca high school. Also, I help with Seneca Youth Travel Basketball tryouts. Basketball has always and will always be a part of my life.
Academically, I study hard to be a successful high school student. History is one of my favorite classes, my junior year I will be taking an honors history class and look forward to this challenge. Also, science is another one of my favorite subjects in school. I like to think critically and systematically to learn about life.
