Basketball is a sport that has given me purpose. It has made me into the player that will push myself to my limits in order to become better, whether that includes working out in the morning before each school day, or during free-time during the school day, or even after practices and games. My commitment to the game also motivates me to go above and beyond, to be a student of the game by watching film, whether it’s of the pros, my opponents or myself.
A life-long love of learning has also been instilled in me by my parents, who are both educators. And through their support and my hard work, I was honored to gain admission into one of the most academically rigorous schools in my area, Maumee Valley Country Day. I hope to continue to develop and evolve in a highly academic environment while playing competitive basketball at the college-level.
Being a multiple sport athlete has given me the foundation to be the basketball player that I am. Playing several years of soccer in midfield, forward and back positions allowed me to not only strengthen my versatility but also allowed me to strengthen my court vision. I have learned to distribute the ball well. It has also made me a more intelligent player with strong shot selection who is willing to pass to the open man (I am currently ranked as number 7th in the state, for my class and division, for Assists) and who is also able to take the shot when needed.
As a sophomore, I not only played basketball and soccer, I also participated for the first time in track. Through hard work, I was able to achieve success during this first track season. I placed 4th in High Jump in the Toledo Area Athletic Conference as well as 4th in the district, and was placed 14th for region. I placed 6th in the district for 400 meters, and 2nd in the district as a member of a 4x400 meter relay team. As a junior, I continued to progress in track, attaining 6 feet for high jump and improving my overall PR for 400 meters. Being a multiple sport athlete has made me into a better basketball player not just physically but also mentally.
Basketball like the other sports I have played over the years, has also taught me perseverance and resilience, obstacles like injuries have taught me the importance of patience and grit.
