I am from a small rural Ontario, Canada town, Maple Leaf. I had a natural ability and desire for basketball early in life. Despite not having a basketball league any closer than a two hour drive, I still persevered and played all year on our sloped gravel driveway. Even in the winter at -20, in the snow. At 13, my parents took me to my first ever basketball camp, where I was awarded MVP. Later that year they enrolled me in a camp in Canada’s largest City, Toronto, to test my abilities. I again was awarded camp MVP. That fall I tried out for my first rep team in Kingston Ontario, and made the OBL U16 team at age 13. I also played my first year of highschool ball that year, and did very well averaging over 15pts /game. I played up (senior) the following season, and for the next two years, averaging over 20 pts/game. During those three years I tried out for several rep teams. One D1, U16 OBL team in Ottawa at age 14, and made the team, however declined the offer to play in exchange for my dream team, Grassroots Elite Canada (silver) for coach Ro Russell, again playing up a level 16U AAU. The next year I tried out for Grassroots Elite Gold and again made the team 17U AAU. I now play 19U AAU at age 17. I’m not intimidated by size or ability. I play to the best of my ability, and always give 110%.
My education is very important to me, and I aspire to balance my basketball career with my education (kinesiology). My desire to work hard and have basketball open some educational opportunities is paramount to me. I am very disciplined, and very openminded to different styles of coaching . I work out faithfully, both on the court and in the gym every day now. I recently competed in Canada’s North Pole Hoops Combine event, with Canada’s top talent (131 players). The final game roster was made up of 26 of the best players, and I was chosen to be one of them.
I am still learning the game every day, also I am very trainable and disciplined. I play to win, and firmly believe the old saying that “ hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard”. I have proven this time and time again to myself. That is why I work so hard. Any coach or team will not regret having me on their roster.
