Personal Statement

Hello, my name is TJ (Timothy James) Moreland and I am  a multi-sport athlete (varsity football, basketball, track and golf) at Mineola High School. It is my goal to find a college to further my education and be able to play the sport that I love: basketball at your university.  I enjoy the challenge of competing and being a part of a team.  I pride myself on my personal work ethic and commitment to giving my best to all my endeavors.  Being a self-motivated individual, I have been disciplined in balancing the time I need for my education and athletics, and I believe it has shaped me well.  I have a tireless commitment to my education and the sports in which I compete, and it has given me the mindset of how to WIN   by being willing to put in the extra work necessary to make it happen.

I began my basketball career as a starter on the varsity team my freshman year playing as point guard and as a shooting guard.   Our team won district my freshman year and sophomore year going deep into the playoff.   My freshman year I received the  "Newcomer of the Year" award for district 13-3A.  Currently as a junior  at MHS I continue to be a starter on our varsity basketball team.   January of this year, I  was recognized with an award at one of our basketball game for breaking over 1,000 point mark as a junior for my high school career thus far.   February 5, 2022 I received the honor of being named the Dave Campbell's "Mr. Texas Basketball Player of the Week" for week 12,  2022.

A pivotal moment during my high school career came at the end of my sophomore year.   As the 3rd leg on our 4x400 relay team we competed at State in Austin and won first place.  Coming home as State  Champions was surreal and I felt a sense of pride and honor to have represented our community and school with my team mates in such a successful way and at the highest level.

I am very aware what is required to be a leader and a team player to be able to compete at the highest level and win.  If asked to be in your basketball program, I certainly will do what is best for the team in order for all to succeed and win.  hope to be able to meet and show you how I can contribute to your basketball program and college.  Thank you for taking the time for me to give you a glimpse of who I am as a person and as an athlete.
