My talent level in basketball was evident early. During my sophomore year, I started even though there were 12 seniors on the team. As the point guard it was critical that I could distribute the ball to take advantage of the scorers around me. I learned to see the floor at a level higher than I ever had.
As my junior year began, with those seniors graduating, my coach showed incredible trust in me, adding much of the responsibility for scoring to my role on the team. I learned the importance of taking smart shots, and increased my floor sense to be able to control the pace of the game.
My senior year marks the third season that I have been chosen as team captain. This role has helped me learn the importance of showing the younger players how to succeed in the game, and providing an on-court leader to provide the energy my team needs. It has also made me confident that I could lead a team at the next level.
As I continue to increase my understanding of the game, I believe it will make me valuable to a collegiate program. My talent, combined with the desire and effort I have shown in my high school program are evidence I hope you will consider in your recruitment.
