Good day to all my future coaches.
My name is Kerwin Williams. I live on a small island of st.thomas of the usvi. Basketball was a sport that I found interesting since I was little but never actually played it until I was 13. Through my years I have played basketball just for fun and not being on my high school team.
This summer I went to a basketball camp where I could expand my mind about the game. That summer I was 5”11 and I just turned 17. The camp was 7 weeks long and practiced everyday so that way I could potentially play for my senior year. I was not improving as I wanted but that never stop me from practing. It was coming to and end of my camp and one of the assistant coaches said something to me that will always stay with me. He said that “ it’s to late for you. You don’t have the necessary skill of a teenager of my age playing basketball and I would never make it pros.” That only made my fire inside grow even brighter and brighter.
From that day I vowed to be the best and make it pros. I tried out my high school team being at 6”1 after that summer but being senior made my chance very slim and also since it was my first time trying-out my performance wasn’t so great. At that moment I felt like giving up but I couldn’t. I made promise that I would be the best and that I will be.
I found a gym teacher who became my coach help my reach my goal of being that. I found myself jump higher and becoming stronger than I ever did. As I countinue to practice I soon discovered new possibilities like going to college and maybe being that number 1 that no one thought I could be.
My goals and aspirations is to be the best. I want to know how it feels to be that guy everyone thought who couldn’t make and did . I’m to put in that work everyday and night to ensure my success of being number 1. Yes...it’s going to be a difficult path to take but I’m going to be the one to face all the way through. What make be different form the best is that I don’t give up. I give you my best at everything even if I know I can’t accomplish it.
Determination is a word I stand by. “Some succed because there destined to. Most succed because there determined to.”
