Basketball plays a huge role in my life . I started playing non-competitively in 7th grade, later than most kids. At that point I wasn't the greatest; other kids made fun of me and taunted me saying that I would never be any good. I used the taunts as motivation to prove them all wrong. What makes me a good candidate for your team is that I am a high energy, unselfish teammate. I have a good shot and am agile and quick. I have a solid foundation in the fundamentals of the game. I am very strong and like to play aggressively on both offense and defense. I never run from a challenge and have no fear. My handles are good. Due to my height, most coaches have played me as a Center or Forward, but my skill set and physical build make me the perfect shooting guard and/or point guard. I specialize in driving the ball up the court and powering my way through defenders to make a bucket, but when given the opportunity, I am very capable of sinking a 3-point shot over the heads of my opponents. I have great team spirit and always cheer on my teammates no matter what the score. I work hard in practice because I believe how you practice is how you play. In my spare time I am always training to improve my game whether its in the weight room or on the court. I have worked with many trainers and have played for many coaches with very diverse coaching styles. What separates me from other recruits is that I maintain a respectable image off the court, as well as in the classroom. School is extremely important to me. At school I am fully focused in class and always respectful to my teachers. I work hard in school, but had a difficult Freshman and Sophomore year due to family issues and a severe injury that required surgery, but worked really hard my Junior year and senior year to bring up my GPA. I currently have a full class load with As and Bs in all but one of my classes. I am very conscientious about how people perceive me on social media and in public. I am careful who I hang out with and avoid trouble; I keep my circle of trusted friends small. I always show respect to all people no matter what their background, status or situation. I come from a good family with very supportive parents and an older brother who is mentally disabled. Having an older brother who is mentally disabled is difficult and gives me a more mature outlook on life than most kids my age. I have had to deal with many stressful situations due to my brother's illness and have used basketball as an outlet and therapy to relieve the stress. The basketball court is my happy place. Any program that recruits me is getting a hardworking, coachable, and respectable young man. I am looking for a coach to challenge me and to help me grow as a student/athlete. I really love the game of basketball and hope to play professionally in the future. To follow my progress, over the past several years, please check out the instagram page my mom set up for me @shiffletttnt. I have been training with Elite Shooters Athletics since April 2016; when I started out I was uncoordinated and needed alot of work, but now perform at the elite level. My trainer has documented my progress from the very beginning to now on his Instagram page @eliteshootersathletics_j. I have opted not to play basketball in High School this season because my parents, brother and grandparents are high risk for getting COVID; I decided to run Track for South Lakes instead and did very well in both short distance events and shot put. I now attend NOVA Community College with a 3.5 GPA and am a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. I did not get a chance to play this year because NOVA did not run their program. I am looking forward to getting back on the court and doing what I love most!
