From starting out as a gymnast and spending hours on end on my trampoline in the backyard, I have always loved the adrenaline rush of flipping and turning in the air. Gymnastics was a huge part of my childhood all the way through middle school until I discovered diving. I was first introduced to diving at Culver Summer Camp at the age of 9. Diving was a sport that came easily because of my gymnastics background. I later put my full focus on diving when attending Culver Academies, which does not have gymnastics. Through the past 3 years I have many accomplishments I am proud of through diving. My freshman year, my first year ever competing, I was runner up champion at Sectionals. My sophomore year I broke my school's 11 dive record and was crowned Sectional Champion. I am most proud of my accomplishments this past year. As a junior, I beat my 11-dive record 3 times, repeated as sectional champion, qualified for Indiana's State meet placing 14th overall, and was named team captain. Although Culver Academies has a decent swim program, there has never been a dedicated diving coach. This past spring, I had the opportunity to work with a coach at a nearby club. I made significant progress soaking up all the instruction I could get. I am a very coachable athlete when given the opportunity to work with a coach. I bring a very outgoing, positive, and fun attitude to the team and sport.
Culver Academies is a rigorous academic and leadership boarding school. I have learned many good study habits, how to work in groups, that it is important to participate in class discussion, and self-advocacy. All of these characteristics are reflected in my GPA of 3.8 on a 4.0 grading scale. Culver has developed me as a great person and prepared me for future life skills beyond high school.
Culver Academy’s leadership system is military based. Its mission is to teach young adults to learn to follow first and then develop into leaders. Sophomore year I achieved the highest rank a sophomore can obtain. Junior year I was in charge of training all the new cadets, then in charge of accountability throughout my battalion, and was highest rank in an exclusive club called Honor Guard. This coming year I was elected to be a part of my school's honor council to uphold our honor code. I also earned the position of Unit Commander which means I am in charge of all unit operations within a 60-person unit.
My goal is to attend a college that offers a great dive team and a film studies program because I am very passionate and serious about both. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me.
