My name is Luke Juels, and I without a doubt absolutely love the sport of diving. Diving has become an extremely integral part of my life in the past year and half. Starting at the Lubbock Dive Club, I began to quickly grasp the basics of diving, because of my prior training in gymnastics, as well as some credit going towards pole vaulting. Soon after I started my junior year of high-school began, and me as well as one of my friends, were the first members of the Lubbock Cooper High-School Diving team. We started the dive team at our school. Without a school facility, the only training we have been able to receive has been at the previously mentioned dive club. We soon hit a wall with this club, as the head coach moved away, and the club had to disband as the aquatics center was understaffed. Without a club, and or a facility with the high-school, we've had to start training at a nearby college (South Plains College). I have to travel 50 minutes there and back every two or three days, and or as many times a week for training, with a less than optimal board.
Aside from this of course, the season continued. Me and my teammate being the first competitive divers at the school jumpstarted the team and did as well as we could for our school. Towards the end of the season I received first place at districts, as well as first place at regionals making state. State was quite a shock to me, and a wonderful experience for my first year of diving.
In the future year I plan on making trips to City of Midland (COM) dive club to train more and more, as well as hopefully AAU meets. I will be going to camps over the summer at University of Texas Austin for diving, as well as a possible camp at A&M College. I would like to work on tightness of my tucks and pikes as well as, as much work on basics as possible.
Truly this year has been one of the best years of my high-school experience, simply because of diving. I wish to further my knowledge and skills in diving under any circumstances, with whatever hardships are thrown at me I will find a way to better myself in diving
