As a young child, I never thought I might be given the opportunity to play golf collegiately until my sophomore year of high school. I had played golf my whole life but more as a family activity on the weekends. Baseball is what had consumed all my thoughts and time. So when I decided to hang up my baseball cleats after my freshman season, I knew I had a lot of work ahead of me. I had been a little late to the competitive junior golf scene in Southern California. But now that golf had taken over, I started to feel this new passion for the game. I wanted to go to the range for hours, I wanted to get a coach, I wanted to play competitively, and most importantly, I wanted to get better. Now, as I prepare for my senior season, after a tough round one of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoffs, I have other goals in mind, including collegiate golf.
My collegiate goals and aspirations are to not only play alongside some of the best amateur golfers in the nation, but also to be able to make strong bonds and connections on the course that last longer than our time playing together. Not starting competitive golf until my sophomore season really put me behind on the competitive stage but I was able to overcome the challenge and make it to CIF in my junior season.
I would be a solid candidate for your program because I have the desire to always improve all aspects of my game. What makes me different is that while constantly improving my golf game, I still had the ability to maintain a 4.2 GPA, run Cross Country, and have a job at the YMCA as a camp counselor.
I appreciate the time you took to read through my profile and my personal statement in consideration for your golf program.
