The first time I picked up a golf club was in February of 2021, and it changed my life. It taught me that sometimes the worst things that happen in life can lead to better things, introduced me to a passion I know will be life-long, and it strengthened my bond with my dad who also plays.
I've always been athletic and thought I would spend my high school athletic career as a left-handed pitcher and hopefully get to play in college, but I was cut from my Sophomore baseball team. Who knew that one of the worst things to happen to me in high school would lead me to one of the best things in my life. It was after getting cut from baseball that I found golf.
I joined the golf team as a second semester Sophomore and went from shooting 150+ down to 100 in just over a year. My first year on the team, I received the Coach's award for embodying the spirit of the team along with my Varsity letter and was chosen as the golf team's highlighted player in the yearbook. I also received the Scholar Athlete award both as a Sophomore and Junior earning a 3.67 GPA both years.
I wish I had found golf sooner but at the same time I believe everything happens for a reason. I believe that had I found it sooner, I may have given it up out of intense frustration for things that are difficult that often comes along with ADHD and learning differences. This was especially true for me at younger ages.
I know I have a lot of work to do to improve my golf game and make up for lost time, but I've spent my life learning to persevere through difficult challenges by working hard on a consistent basis, having a good attitude, never giving up, and believing in myself. I don't say that I "can't do something" but instead I think of it as "I haven't done that yet." One of my favorite quotes is "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard."
I’m going to spend my summer playing in as many tournaments as possible and working every day to improve my game.
I'm not exactly sure what I'd like to study just yet, but I am very interested in a PGA Golf Management Program, and I also love science, history, and criminology and I'd love to have the chance to continue to play golf at the collegiate level at a school that's a good match academically and that could use a player like me on their team.
