Personal Statement

My name is Kyle Lague. I am a junior at Steele Canyon High School, in Jamul CA.

At the moment my tournament scoring differential is 5 and is getting better every tournament, and my current handicap is +0.5.

A big goal for 2019 is getting to a scratch scoring differential, in which I feel is certainly attainable. Since August I have been totally dedicated to only golf and school because the last two years I also played Water Polo but it halted my golf improvement so my junior year I decided to quit water polo. At the moment I feel that I'm on the verge of starting to shoot par golf and better because of my dedication and hard work helping to progress my game to the next level, which would make me a great asset on your golf team.

Here's why I feel I will be a good addition to your team:

Academically I'm a very focused student and I always do my work diligently, and no matter what I always make sure to get my work done on time and well. During my senior year, I will be taking AP Statistics, and my last grading period I had a 4.0 GPA, and my current weighted GPA is a 3.6.

What makes me different from other recruits is I have always had to work harder than others and in times of struggle in my game I have always persevered and learned, which ended up progressing my game further. I'm currently working to improve my short iron approach shots into the green and getting more comfortable with my short pitches and chips, and I know once I do that and improve in those areas I will start drastically shooting lower scores and in turn, will get myself in better finishes in tournaments.

  • 12th Annual FCG International (JWQ)
  • 7/01/19 to 7/02/19
  • The tournament was held on the Willow Glen course, it usually is played as a par 72 but they made 2 of the par 5's into par 4's that played 475 and 490, so it played as a par 70 and throughout the tournament made the course play harder than usual. The first day I had a very rough first 9 holes with shooting 44, but came back on the back 9 and shot a nice 36 to shoot a disappointing 80 on the first day. The 2nd day was much smoother I just didn't make many putts and shot 37 on the front 9 and 37 on the back with a 2nd day score of 74. I ended up shooting 80 - 74 = +14 for 2 days and missed the cut for the third day.
  • Camp/Event
  • CIF; first 2 days and Regionals
  • 5/13/19 to 5/15/19
  • The cut for the first day of CIF was +8, which I made with ease by shooting 72 (EVEN), also as a team we made it to the second day, then the cut for the second day was (+1 or 145 for both days) which I made by shooting 71 (-1) and had a 2 day total of 72-71= 143(-1) to make the cut for regionals by 2 strokes. Regionals was a little more than a week later, and the cut ended up being (-1; 71), but unfortunately I missed the cut and shot (75; +3) .(Disclaimer: There was a day in-between the first 2 days of CIF, so the first day was played on Monday, then the second day was played on Wednesday, also Regionals was played on Thursday May 23, 2019.) Another side note in order to qualify I had to be one of the top 12 individuals out of the total 218 players who played in the CIF tournament, in which I was the 10th individual to qualify for Regionals in Pasadena, CA.
  • Camp/Event
  • National Tour Sycuan Junior
  • 10/13/18 to 10/14/18
  • Was a 2 day tournament with a total of 15 players shot 85 the first day and 78 the second day with a total of +19 163
  • Camp/Event
  • 11th Annual FCG International Jr Golf Championship
  • 7/01/18 to 7/02/18
  • Tournament was 3 days but only 42 players made cut for third day out of a total of 168 players, top finisher was -1 for 3 days I did not make the cut first day shot 81 second day shot 74, total of +15.
