I began playing golf in middle school, but got serious and dedicated myself to the sport about 18 months ago. Since then, I have had the single focus of playing in college. I recognize that I picked up golf much later than those who usually go on to play collegiately, but I have made up for my late start with significant time and effort. I originally played competitive baseball but I was never as dedicated to either sport as I have been for golf. I started playing golf solely for the two months I could play during the high school season. My sophomore year was my first year and after playing for those two months I fell in love with the game. I started to practice regularly and began to take lessons from Ann Finke, a renowned coach who has helped multiple kids play college golf. I began to work out regularly and increased my distance significantly. I also began to play in competitive tournaments. I played in many Rocky Mountain Junior Golf Tournaments, Future Collegiate World Tour tournaments and CJGA tournaments, as well as numerous local pikes peak tournaments. My decision to drop baseball and basketball allowed me to compete in many of the most challenging tournaments around the country.
My scores have started to drop and in one year I have grown from a +25 handicap, to a +5.5 handicap. I have finished in the top 15 twice in RMJGT events and have placed second and third in two pikes peak tournaments. This success excites me and makes me realize that with my continued hard work I could see similar gains my senior year.
In addition to golfing, I am very excited to go to college to pursue a career in medicine. The field of study interests me greatly and I aspire to someday be a doctor. I have always enjoyed science and math and have always taken advanced classes in each subject. I took 4 AP classes my Junior year and will be taking 5 my senior year.
Studying medicine and playing golf would be the perfect situation in college for me because those are my two passions and I would like to pursue both of them in college.
