Andrew Chambers '13 Recruiting Profile

My name is Andrew Chambers and I am now a senior student athlete at Boca Raton Community High School. We just finished our 2012 season. The Team came in 2nd in the Districts and I was 1st in the Regional Championship which allowed me to attend the state finals. This past week I placed 3rd in the Dade County Amateur and I will be playing in the PGA Honda Junior Classic and the Doral Publix Junior later in December.I was also asked to particpate in the South Florida PGA Tour Championship this month but had to pass due to a scheduling conflict. My dream is to play golf at a top rated academic college and maybe someday play on the PGA Tour. I have always known that golf was my first love and a few years ago I decided that it was time to devote my efforts towards golf as basketball had become a full time sport at the high school level and it was taking away from my golf time. I still miss basketball because I have played with my teammates since 4th grade, but I know I have made the right decision as golf is a sport for a lifetime. To date I have had some success as a player. I have been a four year starter on my high school team that has won districts and advanced to regional tournament the last three years.I was Co Captain last year and Team Captain this year. Our region is very competitive as the state champ of Florida has come from our region the last two years. I have had various wins on local and state of Florida tours as well as some success at national events like the Future Masters, World Optimist and US Kids Worlds. Additionally I have been chosen the last two years to represent Team Florida against Team New England in a Ryder Cup style match prior to the Doral Publix Junior Championship.. I have also had some success at adult tournaments as I have played in some of the same tournaments my dad still plays in. I tried to Monday qualify for a Nationwide Tournament as well as the PGA Tour Honda Classic more than once and this really helped me learn a lot about the process and realize that I am not that far removed from a pro player and that with continued hard work I may some day achieve that goal. My background in team sports combined with my good academics would be a benefit to my teammates at any school that I attend. The type of school I am interested in first and foremost is a good academic school. Iam interested in pursuing a carreer in the sciences and I am considering Astronomy as well as Environmental sciences and Pharmacy. If I had my choice about locations I would like to be in a warm weather city that is near the ocean as I like the water and the beach and I have lived within a mile of the beach my whole life. I will say however, that my education is the most important thing and that location is only one factor to consider. I would like a school that has a vibrant campus life where I could attend other sporting events and enjoy a complete campus social life. Finally, I would like to go to a school that will help me not only develop as a golfer, but as a person. To date I have been very lucky in that respect, I have gone to top rated public schools and been blessed with coaches that not only trained me, but cared about me as a person.
