Personal Statement

My name is Parker Durkin, I am a senior at North Forysth High School in Cumming, GA.  My passion is with golf, it has been for 9 years ever since I started.  I started playing competitive 2 years later and with each tournament I pushed myself to be more competitive each time .

I have been a member of the varsity golf team since Freshman year and we placed 4th in state my Junior year.  I have also played over a hundred tournaments with success in a variety of  junior tours including Hurricane, North American Jr Tour, GA State Golf Association, and GA PGA Jr..

At the start of the year, my 18 hole average was 83, all due to 2 or 3 bad holes resulting in a round in the 80's instead of the 70's.   Many of these were mental and course management mistakes.  My number one goal coming into 2022 has been to address this and I'm pleased, entering Sept 2022,  I have lowered my 18 hole average to 79 following a lot of hard work, discipline to the process,  and training significantly reducing or eliminating the mental mistakes.  I'm seeing continued improvements in all facets of my swing, putting, and overall approach to the game and am confident for a lower 18 hole average by the end of the year.   This is the work habit I will bring to my future collegiate career.

When it comes to what I want in a school, I want a school I can attend where I can play golf year round and enjoy what I learn. While I prefer a smaller school, I am very open to any college that reaches out to me and would be happy to play on their team.  I want to major in anything aviation related, mechanical engineering, though my top choice would be aeronautical maintenance.  However this can change over the course of my college career since golf is my priority.

In the future I want to better myself as a student athlete and play competitive golf in college.  With the time I spend on a collegiate team I hope to strive to continue improving myself and my game and pursue my goal of playing competitive golf after college.

  • 10/08/22 to 10/09/22
  • Day 1 - Had a pretty good day. Driver was working really well. Short game was very good. Finished day with 78 (+6). .......................................... Day 2 - I picked up pretty much where I left off from day 1. Driver was not as good but my short game was solid. Putting overall was good, but definitely left about 4 birdies on the course. Finished day 2 at 78 (+6). Finished tournament in 3rd place.
  • Camp/Event
  • Hurricane - Jekyll Island Fall Junior Open
  • 9/24/22 to 9/25/22
  • Day 1, was simply not my day. Never quit and grinded through. Day 2, my swing came back, settled in, with a non-specular 81 but, a lot of good came from the round. Not my weekend but I finished in a positive way.
  • Camp/Event
  • Hurricane - Club Corp Series - WhiteWater Creek (6542 yds)
  • 9/10/22 to 9/11/22
  • Day 1 - Very wet, rainy day. I don't think the rain affected my play, I just was not striking the ball as well as I can, could not find a good rhythm. Driver was doing well, but couldn't make the green in regulation and too many long putts to save par. 84 (+12) ..................................................................................... ................... Day 2 Similar play as day one. Played as best as I could, worked hard on every hole, just couldn't dial it completely in. 83 (+11) but, overall, I did land a top 5 finish.
  • Camp/Event
  • NAJG - Jennings Mill Summer Finale (6280 yds)
  • 8/27/22 to 8/28/22
  • DAY 1 - Was, or could have been an ok day. But, ended with an unfortunate +16 which of, 10 of those strokes was due to just three holes. I just got out of sync, and, those three holes just got the best of me. Finished with a 88 (+16)...................... DAY 2, was great. Driver was great, irons were great, and putting was really good, finishing with 29 putts, but there were a couple birdies I left on the edge. I finished day 2 with a 76 (+4), shaving 12 strokes off from previous day, and moved all the way up to finish 4th after a horrid Day 1 start.
  • Camp/Event
  • Hurricane - Club Corp Series (6583 yds)
  • 8/13/22 to 8/14/22
  • Day 1 - putter was great, 27 total putts. Off the tee was good, irons were good. A couple errant shots prevented doable birdies, but overall, good day, carded 78 (+6).................... Day 2 - putter cooled a bit but my irons and my driver were really good. My up and downs were great today, carded a 77 (+5).............. Finished 3rd of 20.
  • Camp/Event
  • NAJG - MAJOR: UGA Summer Classic (6692 yds)
  • 7/30/22 to 7/31/22
  • Day 1 - Though 16 holes, I was +6, then remainder of day was cancelled due to thunderstorm. Had a very strong day one round, 11 total putts on front nine, hitting everything nice. Day 2, was more difficult. drives were good but regulation and putting cooled. Trouble on three holes cost me a 70's round. Finished day at 84. but I did get a top 10 finish, and I was tied for 2nd for most birdies.
  • Camp/Event
  • Hurricane - Sea Palms Junior Open (6545 yds)
  • 7/23/22 to 7/24/22
  • Day 1 - I struggled all day. Difficulty making regulation, difficult putting day. Carded a disappointing 89. Day 2 - Much better day. Off the tee was great, avg ~265 yds, hit most fairways, putting not great but a lot better, 32 putts, just missed three add'l birdies, all were tap in pars. Overall, pleased how I came back on day two, carding a 79.
  • Camp/Event
  • Hurricane - Boys Mid-Season Invitational (6650 yds)
  • 7/15/22 to 7/17/22
  • First time I have played this course Day 1 - Solid front nine, +2 Back nine, challenged me, finished round @ 81 (+9) . Day 2, finished with 10 pars, but, too many doubles. struggled early; Could not dial in putting. Finished disappointing day, 85 (+13) . Day 3. Finished with 12 pars, solid front nine, putting was good, but could not drain the birdie putts. Finished day , 82 (+10)
