Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Ryan Mel Demit.  I am junior at Cambridge High School in Milton, GA.  I have a 3.5 GPA so far in high school. I enjoy challenging myself in the classroom by taking several honors and AP courses.  In my junior and senior years I plan to continue with a rigorous class schedule.

I love playing golf.  I began playing when I was 12 and competitively when I was 14.   I am at the course seven days a week throughout the year working on all parts of my game.   I love the process and the effort required to continuously improve as a player.  I am mainly self-taught with less than 24 hours of professional lessons so far.  My dream is to play Division I college golf and hopefully play at the professional level someday. Michael Phelps, the greatest Olympic athlete ever, famously said, "If you want to be the best, you have to do things that other people aren't willing to do."  I try to live by Phelps' advice every day.  I pride myself on my work ethic both on and off the course.  My siblings and friends would say I am a serious minded person but also fun to be with.  I am learning to be a leader and want my teammates and friends to be able to count on me to be a leader.

While I have been playing competitive golf at a high level for only two years, my tournament results have been positive.  In the last two years, I have improved at a rapid pace.  I will be among the top four players along with three seniors on my high school team in our Spring 2018 season that begins in February.  In 2015 and 2016, I received a “Most Improved Player” recognition from the Georgia State Golf Association (GSGA). I understand my lack of experience may not be enticing but I am willing to take a gap year after high school and play many more tournaments and come in with the class of 2020.

During the Summer of 2018 in addition to my high school season, I plan on playing in as many AJGA, SJGT, HJGT, and Georgia Junior PGA tournaments as I can to gain more tournament experience and compete to win or place in each tournament.

Lastly, check out my golf Instagram account. I post updated swing videos along with results. @ryandemit_golf
