Golf is my passion, it is my favorite thing to do. Unfortunantly i dont live in a premier place to play. I make the most out of our 5 to 6 month season and nearly all of my free time is dedicated to working with my swing coach, hitting balls, working on my short game, or just playing golf. I didnt start playing competatively until the summer between my freshmen and sophomore years as i played IGA junior tournaments. I struggled to play my best under the pressure of competition but made the state tournament and shot 86,81, a sub par performance finishing close to the bottom for my age. This past summer i played much better finishing in the top 3 in all of my qualifying tournaments and winning one. I made the state tournament again and shot 77,76 i finished tied for 10th but just one shot out of the top 5, a large improvement from the year before. I ended the year with a tournament scoring average of 75.7. I didnt only improve in tournaments but also just in my all around game as my handicap went from about a 6 to hovering around 1. I also finished 2nd in the Idaho Open pro-am at the Headwaters club at Teton Springs in Victor Idaho playing as PGA pro Steve Schneiter's partner. Even though I had some success in tournament play this year what i felt was my biggest achievement was that I went from the beginning of July through the beginning of September without shooting a score of more than 78 and most of them were between 70 and 75. I have never played on a golf team because our school doesn't have one and despite the good golf courses we have here Teton Valley isn't exactly a golf meca. I am considering going to Jackson Hole High School for the 2nd semester of my Junior year so I can play on a golf team. Along with trying to play on that team in the spring I am going to play in the IGA juniors again and I am looking into playing in some PNJGA events over the course of next summer. Aside from sports i participate in News production at my school, I enjoy writing about sports and would possibly want to major in journalism. I am also considering trying to be a part of the PGA and become a course pro. During the summer when im not golfing I caddy and do golf services at Huntsman Springs golf course that, as of this year cracked the top 100 courses in america. It is a great enviornment and has helped me improve my game immensely because it is a very difficult course and it tests all facets of my game every time I play as well as providing me with access to PGA teaching pros, and a great practice facility where I can hit balls or work on my short game. I am not very big at 5' 8'' and 130 pounds but I have learned to overcome that by minimizing misses, getting up and downs, and making good ball contact, also over the last 2 years i have been getting into the weight room and improoving my strength. I am very competative and push myself in the classroom as well as in any event because I don't like losing or failing. My ultimate goal is to give everything I can to the game of golf and try to compete at the highest level I possibly can.
