I am currently a freshman at Indiana University's Kelly's Business School and was a direct admit with a 4.27 GPA. I'm a unique college recruit because my first year of competitive golf was in the summer of 2020 prior to my junior year of High School. My handicap was a 13 at that time which only allowed me to enter the lowest level of Indiana Junior Golf Association tournaments.
The reason 2020 was my first year of competitive golf was because I played travel baseball since I was 10 years old and then my freshman and sophomore of high school. I was certain of playing collegiate baseball but Covid postponed our season and I quickly became very consumed with golf. I do feel baseball has been very important in my approach and demeanor on the golf course. There is a mental toughness required to play sports with such high percentage of failures and that part of my game is going to help me get to an elite level.
Since I've only had two seasons of tournament play prior to college I certainly haven't hit the radar of coaches relative to those playing most of their lives. My plan was to attend Kelly's Business school my freshman year and then continue my same trajectory with a stellar 2023 of summer tournaments with the hope of earning a spot IU's team. I have quickly realized that playing club golf this year at IU isn't where I need to be and have developed a tremendous sense of urgency to join a college team in 2023.
I had a handicap of 13 when entering my first tournaments in the spring of 2020. In January of 2022 my handicap was 3 and allowed me to enter the Northern Amateur against top collegiate players. My handicap is currently +.3, my desire stronger than ever, and certain the trajectory I've had the past two years will continue for many more.
