Personal Statement
Hello my name is Guus Lafeber from the Netherlands and I am 16 years old. I just finished High school and I am going to start with my Secondary Vocational Education. This education is about sports marketing and takes 2 full years. So my goal is to start college golf in 2026.
I have always been interested in many sports. When I was younger I played field hockey, tennis and football. But since I am 13 years old, golf has been my main sport. I grew up with golf as my father played on the DP Wolrd Tour for over 20 years. Age 1 to 4 as a family we travelled full time with him on tour. My mom also was a good player and played for the national golf team for many years. I have two younger brothers who are 11 and 14. They are fanatic field hockey players.
My HCP is -3.5 and I play for the Dutch National Team U18. My dream is to play college golf for a D1 school and win the National champioinships with the team. Altough golf is an individual sport I am very much a team player and I love the social aspect of college golf. I see myself as a social person that loves to interract with all sorts of students. I see myself as a social person who opens up easily to people. I also see myself as a very coachable person. I guess this has to do with the fact that I grew up with golf at the highest level and my father always taught me to be very humble to this game and always be open minded and learn from others. A funny detail about myself is that I am a bit of a golfnerd and know a lot about the history of the game.
We have lived at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Orlando, Florida and only recently sold the house. I will miss this place big time! So I hope that I will be able to visit Lake Nona again when I am playing college golf.
