Personal Statement
I haven’t always played golf. I started my sporting career as a footballer playing for a top National side and selected to join a premiership development center. However, after picking up a golf club for the first time, I did not realize the impact that this sport would have on my life, education and future.
I chose golf over football, and this decision was rewarded when I achieved a highly competitive golf scholarship to one of the most prestigious independent schools in the UK. Bedford School has not only provided me with an amazing level of education, but also contributed to my unbeaten season of match play in 2018/2019, breaking the school record and becoming a school hero; something I could never have imagined when I held my first club.
Competitions have always driven me to succeed and fuel my determination. I have been exceptionally lucky to be able to represent my club, school, county, Regional and National teams. In 2021 I not only won an open tournament with a 67, but I also qualified for the IMG Junior World golf finals in San Diego CA (sadly covid prevented me travelling to compete). Representing Bedfordshire U18 county team has given me the chance to play against some of the best golfers in the country. Playing in the South East England County finals was a real success, beating two of the top England players 9&7 and 1up.
I am aware that one of my strengths is in matchplay, and I consider myself to be one of the best in the country. My confidence in this type of competition, along with my calm approach has allowed this area of my game to progress. I think an area of weakness would be my game management in relation to stroke play, I feel sometimes I play well but the scores do not reflect this.
I have a strict performance and coaching regime. Bedford school provide support with physical core training and golf coaching but I also look for extra guidance with an outside golf professional and specialist putting coach. I do not come from a golfing background, but I am very lucky to have a very loving supportive family, for which I am very grateful. Most of our garden has been dedicated to golf, which allows me to practice throughout the year.
My passion for the sport is stronger than ever and I am confident that I have the ability, talent, drive and determination to continue to progress my playing ability. I have a good academic track record as evidenced by my GPA of 3.7 and predicted A Level grades of A, A, A. I would like to be considered for a college program with a coach who can see potential in me, I want to be challenged and in return I believe I can get much better in the right environment to practice, play and compete.
Many thanks for taking the time to read my story.
