I have been playing golf since I was ten years old and I am determined to become a top Tour professional. I want to play college golf as I believe the experience of playing with and against top players as well as the social integration is essential for my development in my chosen career.
I stay with my Grandparents on a golf estate and our climate enables me to play almost every day. I love to practice and play games whenever I can, even if it is just nine holes after practice. I have spent the past three and a half years as a full time boarder at Kenako Golf Academy in George, South Africa, the home of the likes of Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace. My coach was Roger Wessels, a former Tour professional who helped me hone my game from a handicap of 9 to my current +4. My current coach is John Dickinson. I have played in two World competitions in Germany and played a number of courses in Scotland in 2015 when I went to watch the British Open at St Andrews.
My stroke average in Provincial level games is 68 and I have won a number of tournaments by shooting in the low sixties. My lowest to date is 62 which I have achieved on a number of occasions. I was selected for the Southern Cape Provincial teams and have played in numerous Inter-Provincial, individual stroke-play and team match-play tournaments at Under 19 ,Under 23 and open levels. South Africa has 9 Provinces and one generally plays for the province within which one resides. For academic reasons I have moved back to my Grandparents in the Province of Gauteng, so I now play for Central Gauteng.
I made the South African National Junior ranking of number 8 but then chose to move to Open Amateur level where my current ranking is 12 in the country. My best achievement recently was winning the Freddie Tait Trophy at the BMW SA Open Championships. This is the trophy for the top Amateur of the tournament.
In academics, I have moved from the South African Matric system to the International Cambridge system, associated with the University of Cambridge in England, as I believe it will provide a better opportunity for me to get into colleges in the United States. I am presently preparing for SAT's.
I am looking forward to the pressure of increased competition as well as the challenges of a different culture and lifestyle in a new country. I am ready for it!
