Personal Statement
The reason why I want to go to America to play golf at college is that I don't want to fall out of love with the sport. I have seen many people abandon sports they loved and grew up playing only because it became harder for them to play the sports. I also want to compete at a high level for the sport I've devoted days and weeks of my life to as I care about the sport and will do anything to get better at it.
I believe I would be a good fit for any golf team as I have always found that I'm good at lifting everyone's spirits and helping them power on to achieve what they want to achieve. I believe the best trait you can have if you're working in a team with anyone is patience and communication skills as that is what creates a great team leader and I believe that I have those traits to thrive.
I think the best part about my character is that I'm resilient in my mindset. If something is holding me back such as racist comments or hate from my peers, I make sure to never let that bother me, to turn the other shoulder and show that I'm the bigger person by getting revenge with my skills rather than my words.
The thing that sets me apart from the rest of the competition physically is that I have spent hours on end perfecting my physical attributes for me to excel at any sport. People commonly doubt my athletic ability due to my smaller stature and less-than-average muscle percentage, however, I have been studying how the body works and the overall biology of a human to create my swing, helping me outdrive nearly everyone I play against.
My Dad immigrated, from Malaysia, at the age of 16 to search for a better life for him in the future in Scotland. He has battled through everything to make it to the top of his field. He went from an ambitious boy in Malaysia with no chance of making it, to a well-established Professor at the University of Glasgow. He did this with a sacrifice from his dad, and a lot of determination to make it one day. I see him living his best life at the top and it motivates me to go for the dream, and this dream can only start after I succeed academically. This is where my dad pushes me, and I don't want to disappoint him or my grandpa who both sacrificed so much for me to even fathom the idea of moving to America to play golf.
