Personal Statement
I have serious golfing ambitions, as well as long standing fascination for business. The quality and standard of golf is exceptionally high in the United States of America and I believe that it is the best country in the world in which to develop my game further. Sport has been an integral part of my life, although I only started playing golf at the age of 14, but was addicted to perfecting my game from the minute I picked up a golf club! I chose IGCSE (Physical Education) as a subject in August 2015 and achieved an A for my assessment in golf. This subject was my strongest in Years 10 and 11, together with business studies. My love for golf and the determination to be able to play and study at the same time is of great importance to me. In Zambia, I am restricted to the amount of golf competitions I can enter; however, I have played golf at adult level since I was 16 and therefore have been exposed to mature sportsmanship. I have learnt quickly from playing with advanced players.
AS Business has given me a solid foundation to grow and further develop my knowledge in the areas of management, culture and communication in business. I have had several leadership roles, and know the importance of communication and mutual understanding to further business prospects, because of my work experience with ‘Tiger Feeds’ and ‘Tiger Chicks’. These are agricultural businesses located in Lusaka, Zambia. Obtaining a degree in Business would help me understand the expertise needed to run and manage a successful business. My interest in business management was born through the desire to own my own business and I believe I have the qualities to forge a successful career in this field. The exclusive leadership qualities necessary for managing a business are unique to each, however, I believe I have the essential leadership qualities integral to the optimal functioning of a successful business. I do not believe in starting a project if l am not willing to finish the task and get the best results I possibly can. My determination and perseverance in sport has given me the ability to achieve many things. I was appointed the Captain of our team that represented Baobab College in the adventure race that took place in December 2016. I was also appointed Captain of the U/19 Volleyball in the school year 2016/2017. I represented my school in December 2016 in an Adventure Race that consisted of 250km of running, cycling, swimming, abseiling and rock climbing over 4 days negotiating the terrain by using a map and a compass. I trained for 4 hours a day in running, swimming and cycling. My experience from taking a leading role gave me the opportunity to manage a team effectively and it forced me to be able to solve problems creatively, such as what to do when we got lost, or when one of our bicycles broke. Studying business management would help me combine previous leadership experiences with business theory, thus making me a more efficient and effective leader. I like to aim high, contribute fully to the community I am part of, and I am determined to make a success of my future.
