Personal Statement
Hello! My name is Adrien Jackson and I am 17 years old and living in France from American and French parents. I have been golfing since I was 4 years old, and as I grew up my aspiration to play at the collegiate level became stronger. I love competition, and I particularly enjoy playing in a team. For three years now, I have been part of my club’s (Cannes-Mougins) Division 2 men’s team and Division 1 U17 team until this year. I contributed to bringing the latter up to the first division two years ago. In June of 2016, we won the U17 French National Championship, an effort and an accomplishment of which I am eminently proud to have been a part of. In the last Division 2 men’s team championship, I helped my team move up to Division 1, and I scored my first hole-in-one!
Since beginning to compete seriously, I have taken every opportunity to play all the Amateur Grands Prix in my region and elsewhere in France, favoring high-level competitions with the risk of collecting fewer points on the national ranking, but all the while gaining valuable golfing experience. I have been working hard to improve my technical and mental skills, challenging myself on difficult courses.
To be able to play in a college team, I have worked hard on the course but also in school. I did not have the privilege to join the French-sponsored golf program, but I have been able to count on my parents’ support to combine intense golf practice and school with the ambition of succeeding in both. This has taught me to be disciplined, organized, and a relentless student and athlete. My average grade has consistently been around 13/14/20 (GPA of about 3.4), and my scoring average is currently 75/76, but with some under-par scores.
It would be a great privilege to join a college team to fulfill my aspiration as a student-athlete.
