Personal Statement
Hi Coach, I am William Charlesworth, British but living in Spain. At the age of eight, I found my Mum’s old junior clubs and I was hooked from the moment I started to swing them.
After joining my local club, I started training with the head coach who told me about collegiate golf, and from that moment, playing collegiate level golf has been my dream and goal.
I have discovered that I thrive in competitive surroundings. I have learned to persevere, fight for every shot, and never give in. These lessons come hard, but they are the ones from which I learn the most and the ones that keep me hungry to improve.
There have been many standout moments where I know I learned so much about the game and, more importantly, myself, such as how to lead, socialise, and communicate with my seniors and peers.
My regional win for the PGA League (Ligas PGA) in 2019 was a big lesson in mental strength and personal drive. The same year, I also came second in the national final for the PGA League (Ligas PGA). Knowing where I wasted a shot here and there taught me so much about improving my mindset going into such a big competition.
I understand the meaning and importance of commitment, dedication, respect, listening to others and the personal sacrifice needed to succeed academically as well as on the course and I know this will make me an asset to your team.
My current stats,
Fairway hits: 83%
Greens in regulation: 77% - This is going to improve massively when I get my new irons as the flex, I have now is causing inconsistency.
Putting: 34.8 – This is the part of my game I am really working on; I need to be much closer to 26. The inaccuracy with my irons is leaving too much putter work now.
Penalties: 0.2%
Driver Distance Average: 317 Yards
7 Iron Club Head Speed Average: 92MPH.
