Personal Statement

Since I was 4 years old, I started playing golf and other sports. When I first started playing football, I liked it because we worked together as a team, all as one towards the same objective. We had to work together to accomplish one common goal. It taught me how to lead by example working hard during practice, at the gym and on the field. Everyone had to do their best to play on gamedays. Due to my performance, leadership, effort, dedication, and commitment to the team during the season, I have been selected team captain in several finals.

On the other hand, golf is different since it is an individual sport, and that is what I like about it. It is you against yourself every time you are at the course. That is what motivates me to keep practicing more since it challenges me to be better every time. This sport has taught me many lessons, but one sure thing that I have learned from golf is that, like life, without the correct mindset of having goals but not working hard for them, you are not going to reach them. I am an extremely competitive person; I give my best every time I go out to practice or on the course. It does not matter who you are this sport will challenge you every time. Every failure you must get up by yourself with no one there to help you. This has taught me that no matter who you are playing against its going to be you against yourself always battling with your mind when you don’t like the results or handling pressure, but to play good golf and be successful, you have to accept the bad breaks or mistakes, learn from them quick, stay focused in the present and move on fast.

My dedication as a person has always been important in my life. I try my best in everything I do. My grades have always been important to me also. I try to organize my weeks to have time for everything balancing my studies, gym, friends, family and for practicing golf. Outside of school, I like to help my family every year in an activity where we give away 2,000 meals to people in extreme poverty from the town of Anton, which is 2.5 hours from Panama City. Being able to help those most in need is a blessing and the fact that my family has instilled these values in me since an early age it’s something I appreciate and will practice the rest of my life.

I would like to attend a college that offers me a balance between an extremely good education and a good golf program that helps me continue developing in both aspects that are particularly important in my life. At this moment I am open to all options since I know that I can improve my game even more than where it is at the moment, and in terms of my education, I have not yet decided what I want to study since I am just about to enter my junior year in high school, but in order of interest Marketing, Business and Robotic Engineering really catches my attention.

  • 2025 Panama Golf Association Match Play Invitational
  • 6/20/25 to 6/22/25
  • From the 20th to the 22nd of June, the Panamanian Golf Association (APAGOLF) organized a 3-day match play invitational tournament that was played at the very difficult 72.6 rating 144 slope 6987 yards blend blue/black tee Club de Golf de Panama course (Host course of the Korn Ferry Tour Panama Championship), in which the field was filled with 16 of the best adults and juniors of the country, and the winner was granted entrance to the R&A and USGA World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). Fortunately, I was able to play at a very high level the whole weekend, both physically and mentally, so that after 4 matches i could become CHAMPION of the 2025 Panama Golf Association Match Play Invitational, and a new member of the WAGR. My first match was against one of the best juniors in the country, Pablo Tomas del Grosso that has a +0.4 USGA Index and is the 2024 The Optimist International Junior Golf Championship14-15 age group Champion. This was a very difficult and close match all day that was All Square after the first 12 holes in which up to this point, sometimes I was 1up and other he was 1up. In the 15th hole I made a costly mistake by three putting and was 2 dn with only 3 holes to play. Obviously i got nervous, but I am very proud of myself since I was able to calm down, keep my mind in the right place and ended up taking advantage of a mistake he made in the 17th hole and I birdied the 18th hole to tie the match and force extra holes. After the 20th hole of this very tough match, I was able to win and move to the 2nd round of the championship. In this match i played the same day another junior called Ernesto Duran Vallarino that has a 4.4 USGA Index and earlier that day won 6&5 his previous match, however, in the afternoon i was playing better golf than in my first match being -2 under par with 3 birdies and 1 bogey during the first 13 holes and pulled of a 7&6 win to move on the 3rd round of the tournament. In this round I played Jean Pierre De Roux, an adult that holds a +0.9 USGA Index. JP is a very experienced player that during his days as a junior golfer represented our country in several occasions, which was a great experience for me to learn from him while we competed. In this match I was able to pull off a win 1up giving me way to participate in the final match. The final match was against another of the best juniors in Panama, 15-year-old Alejandro Arias that has a +0.8 USGA Index who has been playing very solid golf in his last tournaments, having made 8 birdies in one of his last rounds played in competition. The conditions were very difficult, and it rained almost all day, but after a slow start with 2 bogeys and a double bogey putting me 2dn in the match after the first 3 holes, I was able to maintain calmed mentally and turn around the round by win the last 4 holes of the front 9 to put myself 2up entering the back 9. This gave me the confidence to play solid golf for the rest of the match and win 2&1 finishing the following 14 holes even par with 2 birdies and 2 bogeys after the rough start in the first 3 holes. This win had a bittersweet taste for me since Alejandro is my first cousin, but it was also very special at the same time since we both competed at a very high level, and I know it’s a matter of time for him to have his opportunity to win and enter the WAGR also.
  • Camp/Event
  • 5th Tournament of the Panama National Ranking 2024-25 Season
  • 5/03/25 to 5/04/25
  • This past weekend on May 3rd and 4th i played our 5th 2024-25 season local Junior Tour Ranking at Vista Mar Marina Golf Course in Panama City, Panama. The course is near the Pacific Ocean, a little bit windy and totaled 6,717 yards and a Rating/Slope of 73.7/134 with a blend of black and blue tees. The field gathered some of the best local talents including 3 WAGR ranked players in my age group of boys 15-18 years old which did very good managing to finish 2nd with rounds of 71 (-1) and 73 (+1) for a total score of 144 Even par. I also finished 2nd overall including all 18 hole age groups from 10 to 18 years old. This tournament was very important to me to demonstrate myself that i can play at a very high level like a used to since i have been working very hard the last 6 months physically, mentally and technically after a couple of years that i distracted my attention towards football and basketball. As a result of my discipline and hardwork, i am very happy and it feels great to also see how my USGA Index is finally going down again during the past 2 months since at somepoint it reached a historical high at 5.6, and now its at 1.8 since. This motivates me even more and today the day after this tournament, i went back to work immediately. My day started going to the gym at 5am before i went to school since i know i have not reached my full potential yet and i will continue working hard every day to be a best golfer i can be.
  • Camp/Event
  • XXI Campeonato Internacional De Golf
  • 4/17/25 to 4/20/25
  • On April 17th to 20th i played the XXXI Campeonato Internacional De Golf in Bogota, Colombia. This was a 4 round tournament played in the beautiful San Andres Golf Club from the back tees with a total of 7,291 yards with a Rating/Slope of 73.4/138, very fast greens and some really narrow tee shots. It gathered a very competitve field with a maximum of 4.9 index to participate, therefore some of the best local talents were there, WAGR ranked players and other international players from countries such as USA, Panama, Venezuela, Curacao just to name a few. I finished T19 out of 56 players and shot rounds of 77, 77, 76 and 82 stricking the ball very well and strong mentally. The greens tested my putting since they were much faster than what i am used to play but i was able to adapt fast and got better in this area of my game on each round. This tournament was very challenging physically also, since we had to walk during practice and competition rounds, therefore that week i walked almost 100 holes in 6 days at 2640 meters above sea level and the last round i felt very tired and it reflected in my score after 3 very consistent rounds previously. I feel very proud of my results since i managed to have only 1 hole with a score above bogey which was a double bogey during the entire 72 holes. I was very focused on each shot while managing to keep my body hydrated and with energy drinking water and eating small bites of sandwiches constantly.
  • Camp/Event
  • 1st tournament of the Panama National Ranking of the 24-25 season
  • 11/30/24 to 12/01/24
  • I finished in 2nd place out of 16 of the best 15 to 18 years old junior golfers in the country with rounds of 77 and 78.
