Dear Future Coach
My name is Mateo Vaca, I’m from Quito Ecuador, currently finishing 10th grade. I was born in the USA but I have lived most of my life in Ecuador.
My first passion was soccer like every other kid in South America, from the moment we are born we have a soccer ball in our crib.
At home my dad took me to many soccer camps and on the weekends to cheer for the local team, but there was another sport at home, Golf my mom’s sport, she will go and play on the weekends. At that point I didn’t know but she had represented Colombia’s National golf team in many events.
At age 8, while attending a summer camp at the country club where I was enrolled in soccer. I saw some older kids training their golf swing at the range next to the soccer field, one of the coaches called me to try to hit a ball, to keep it short I dropped soccer and enrolled in the golf for the entire summer and so it began.
I have played and trained golf regularly for the last 8 years, golf has taken me to place I have never imagined, Not only that I got to see my country while competing in the local tour, but while playing locally I been fortunate to qualify to many tournaments outside Ecuador. I got to play 4 US Kids World Championships, 1 US Kids South American Championship in Brasil, 1 US Kids European Championship in Scotland, The Optimist, tournaments in Colombia and Peru.
Golf has made a better person, because Im more organized with the way I carry with my day to day activities, I go to school and at 2;45pm I go to the country club were I train golf until 6:00pm and then go to the gym for another hour.
Golf has made a better person, because I got to exposed to so many diverse people from other countries, races and backgrounds.
Golf has made me a better person, because I get to challenge myself every day.
Golf has made me better person, because it gave me a dream, which is to play college golf in the US, and once I reach that goal I know I will exceed in my game as well as my academics.
