Personal Statement
Hi Coach, my name is Juan Pablo Ng and I am from Panama City, Panama. I have been playing golf since I was 7 years old following the footsteps of my older brother. Currently I am part of Panama's National Federation (APAGOLF) Team. It has been my goal since I was small to study in the United States and be able to play golf in college.
I am lucky to be able to practice at my home course, Club de Golf de Panama, which is a championship course at 7,000 yards. It has been host to a Web.com Tournament for the past 15 years. As part of the National U18 Ranking, I play 8 tournaments a year which are 36 holes each one. There are six different courses that are played in the national ranking. These include other championship courses like Santamaria Golf Club and Buenaventura Golf & Beach Resort which are both Jack Nicklaus designs.
Every year since I was 9 years old, I have had the opportunity to travel to the United States to play in tournaments like US Kids World Golf Championship, IMG Junior World Golf Championship (formerly Callaway Junior World Golf), Optimist, and Hurricane Junior Golf Tour.
One of the best experiences that I have was to be able to represent my country in the Junior Open in 2016 in Scotland. As part of the tournament, they took us to the Open and we were able to meet the previous year's winner Zach Johnson.
Regionally, I have participated in tournaments in various countries like Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Ecuador, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Bolivia. These regional tournaments where I am selected to represent my country are multi-day tournaments where I play 54 and 72 holes.
With my swing coach, I am always working to improve my game focusing mostly on the short game area. I continue to work with my physical trainer in order to gain more strength.
Besides practicing golf since I was 7 years old, I am also a black belt 2nd Dan in Taekwondo.
I believe with the experience that I have, I can be a good candidate for your team and I hope you will take me into consideration so that I may continue to improve in my golf and grow academically at your institution.
