2025 Spotlight
2024 SpotlightI have been involved in the world of golf since I was just a few months old. In mid-April 2009, the 73rd edition of the Masters Tournament in Augusta began. My father, a person who is truly passionate about golf, decided to attend this prestigious tournament. That edition saw a three-way tie, with Ángel Cabrera emerging as the winner, becoming the first Argentine ever to win that title. From the trip, my father brought back a blanket with the PGA logo, which I still keep, along with two ball markers from the tournament—one for him and one for me—predicting that in a few years, I would also get involved in this amazing sport.
In 2019, my interest in golf grew significantly. As a result, my father researched and arranged for me to attend IMG Academy every summer, which I did a total of four times. By the third time I went, I set myself a goal: my biggest dream was to play college golf and dedicate my life to this sport. In October 2023, I joined the Dominican Golf Federation's national junior tour, making a strong debut with decent results, including one podium finish. In November 2024 I had the chance to meet Juan Jose Guerra, the Dominican golfer that currently is in the better shape, the current national champion, having been named to the 2019 All-Nicklaus Team as one of the top 24 players in collegiate golf while competing for Nova Southeastern in Division II, where he set multiple records, including becoming the program’s all-time leader in career birdies with 496. After playing with him and taking lessons twice in Casa de Campo, he realized I was ready for the next level, so at the next lesson i had with him at the end of February he had the wonderful idea of me meeting Zach Parker, current leading Coach at the Golfzon Leadbetter Academy in Reunion, Florida, so Juanjo put us in contact and since March 17th Zach became my Coach, taking lessons with him in person that weekend and video calls on the range once a week from that day on, until the summer camp at the Leadbetter Academy, in one of my most critical moments in golf, he cheered me up by telling me that I am inside the full time program, specifically in the morning group that started in mid August, raising my spirits and marking a before and after in my life. Hopefully representing the logos of the Academy till my graduation.
My academic performance has always been outstanding, achieving a 99 average in my first 2 years of high school under the Dominican system, which translates to a 4.0 GPA in the American system. I believe that responsibility and dedication are words that best define me, as I consistently strive to submit my assignments on time and actively participate in various extracurricular activities, such as academic Olympiads, reading marathons, and Model UN simulations. At Instituto Iberia, where I am currently studying, we have the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma program, which I plan to participate in next year. The school is also known for its success in sports, and I have been proud to contribute to this reputation. In October 2023, during my unofficial debut in tournament golf, our school team finished in second place at the 2nd edition of the interschool golf tournament at Vistas Golf & Country Club. Some of my academic achievements include placing 2nd in the District Physics Olympiad, participating in the Regional Physics Olympiad, being awarded Best Delegate three consecutive times in internal Model UN simulations since seventh grade, and holding the title of Academic Excellence throughout my school experience.
I am fully committed to giving my all to achieve my goals and develop the best I can as a person, always trying to give respect to receive respect in return. Thank you for your time, and I truly appreciate all the opportunities provided by the NCSA platform. Have a great day!
