Personal Statement
Scores 2017: http://www.golfdata.se/guide/spg_res_pdf.asp?nr=53612&Year=2017
My name is Fredrik Ericsson and I come from Stockholm, Sweden.
I compete in the highest level of junior golf in Sweden and college golf has been my goal since I first started competative golf. I follow the motto of the Swedish airborne rangers: Will, courage and persistence. This is something I apply to everything that I do; school, sports, music and life in general.
I have noticed that my strong will to achieve great results in everything that I do, is something which has had a great impact on people in my suroundings. This I can see in school but first and foremost in the team sports that I play. I believe that my role as captain of my floorball team is to boost everyone to the level that they begin to boost each other on the field. Having a team with skillful players is good, but having a team with forceful willpower is great. Even though golf is what one may interpret as an individual sport, I truly believe that having a good attitude within the team in terms of aspirations and desire, will have an impact on the training and the scores. I will definently contribute with such attitude.
I take school with great seriousness, because I know it opens up a various of doors for the future. My mere interest in school, and ability to easily learn has made my towards to 4.0 GPA slightly less demanding than for others who only focus on results in school rather than really learning.
Lastly I am very athletic. That I ended up becoming a golfer was something nobody would predict when I was younger. I played soccer on a elite level from that I was 7 years old and the combination of playing soccer and floorball since young age has given me a strong ground of physics, first and foremost a strong cardiovascular fitness (Personal best 2017, 3km cooper test: 10min 50sec). When I was 14-15 years old I started running track and doing olympic wheightlifting in order to gain explosiveness. Although I now have a very good overall physique, I have gotten something far more important out of all the training that I have done. That is the knowledge of how you need to push yourself and your body to the very limits if you are aiming for the top. A lot of people have perspired during training sessions, but not everybody knows what it feels like when you have pinched out every inch of energy, disabling you to move a muscle after a good session. How does this help my golf? I know the significance of the word training, and will practice extremely hard to achieve my goals.
My dream is to graduate with a feeling that I have had the four most intensive, memorable and learning years of my life. Learning in a sense which not necessarily only have to do with school but ultimately with life, through experiences. My goal is to graduate with a degree in medicine, to develop as much as possible as a person and focus on becoming as good at golf as possible during these 4 years. Later on, I would like to turn pro and try to fight my way towards the tour as well as becoming a doctor. Some might say that "an 18-year old with an average score of 76 has no business in trying to become something within golf" but I would like to humbly enlighten them that the average age on the pga tour is 30 y/o.
Who am I as a golfer? I am quite fearless and really try to take my chances. What sets me aside from most people that I have played with is my ability of shot making. As much as I love hitting straight shorts, I love to curve the ball; draw, fade high or low. For instance if there is a water hazard on the left side of the fairway, I will fade my tee shot knowing that it has almost no risk of finding the water. The miss would be to over fade it and find the right rough, much better than the water. I love to play in "bad conditions" with a lot of wind etc. Mostly because I can adapt to the conditions and hit very low shots when needed, especially with my spoon with which I sniper fairways with stinger trajectories not affected by the wind (267yards). My strenght is my ballstriking and my ability to hit a wide range of shots.
