Personal Statement

My name is Nils Thorestrom. I´m 18 years old and live in Boras, Sweden. I have lived in Sweden my entire life and I have always loved activities and sports. In my spare time I like to play sports, play the guitar, watch movies and hang out with friends. I consider myself as a calm and happy person that always tries his best. I play in the junior team at Boras golf club and have been playing golf since I was a seven year old boy.
I have tried both badminton and soccer before I decided to dedicate my time to golf, which was definitely the right choice. My grandfather was the one who introduced me into the sport and I have always loved playing and competing against him. I'm very addicted to improving my game and I always love the challenges ahead of me, both mentally and physically, which is why it's such a great sport.
Golf has taught me very much. That hard work always pays off and facing different challenges makes me grow. My coach has always stressed the importance of how to manage all parts of life and not just golf. In order for my game to develop in the right direction, every other aspect in life like school, health, family/friends and spare time have to be balanced. I always prioritise school before golf and other activities because I believe that a solid education is very important in life and is an investment for the future.
The question of why I would very much like to study in the USA has many answers. For one, In the USA I would have the opportunity to combine both education and sports, which is more easier in the States than in Sweden. Secondly, I want to practice and compete with athletes that have the same goals and dreams that I have, to be a part of a golf team that strives to reach the highest level of the sport. Lastly but most importantly, I would like to be able to prepare myself as much as possible for the PGA tour and to have the best chance of winning tour events but mostly in majors, which is my long term goal and dream within golf. I look forward to the challenges your school offers.
