Personal Statement
My name is Aaron Evalu. I am 16 years old. I live in Samoa with my parents and older brother. I attend the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I also attend the Church College or High School - the name of the school is Church College of Pesega. I have been playing golf since I was 5 years old. I started to learn golf when I was 5 while living in Washington D.C with my family. I started to play junior golf joining First Tee at the Potomac at Washington D.C area. I moved back to Samoa in 2015 and continued my practice and playing junior golf. With the support of my hard working parents I was able to travel to New Zealand, Australia and USA to play in junior championships.
I travelled to America to play at the Junior World Championship run by the IMG Academy since 2018 when I was 10 years old. I did really well in 2018 being my first year to compete. In 2018, I shot scores of 78, 77 and 84 at Morgan run T98 overall in a field of 140 it was my first time playing at San Diego Junior World Championships.
My second championship in 2019, I shot scores of 74, 74 and 73 T38 overall in a field of 159 players age 11-12. I was not able to play due to COVID-19 for 4 years. When our borders reopened after COVID-19, I competed at the 2023 Junior World Championship and shot scores of 81, 76 and 79 T137 age group 15-18 boys, field was 203. It was very challenging to keep up my game during COVID-19. In November 2023, I also competed at the Pacific Games 2023 as a Junior player representing my country Samoa. My scores at the Pacific Games of 76, 83, 69, 75 helped to secure bronze medal for Samoa's National Men's Golf team. I come from Samoa, a small island in the South Pacific that has very limited opportunities and resources to support any junior golfer with a big dream and that is to get a scholarship in golf. Despite the financial constraints, I still made it to the USA to compete and I would like to thank my parents for all their love and support for me.
