Personal Statement

In my opinion, my key strength is simply my all-round ability and my work ethic; I am always willing to put in the effort to get as good as I can at anything, from athletics to academics. My academics always take priority (which I hope shows in my GPA) something which may not be true with many other candidates, but I hope that in college I can truly evolve as a golfer as well as a person and I want to make the absolute most of all my opportunities.

As a member of my high school field hockey team, as well as leading the sophomore team last year, I am used to a team environment and feel I can use my experience in other sports to help how I bond with a team and manage myself on the golf course.

Over the summer break, I aim to play in as many tournaments as possible; this gives me priceless experience and I can learn a great deal from watching the players at the top of the amateur rankings.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • Midland Closed Championship
  • 6/10/17 to 6/10/17
  • On an already very challenging course, the 20mph winds really added to the difficulty. I hit the ball well, managing to shape it and keep it low enough to stay out of trouble. 2 solid rounds in the wind finished me in T15 from roughly 70 players (the top players in the Midlands) +5, +5 T15
  • Camp/Event
  • Midland Schools Championship
  • 5/31/17 to 6/01/17
  • This is a qualifying tournament for the National School Finals, where the Top 10 go through. I qualified easily with a 2nd place finish. From the Nationals the Top 18 will form an England Schools' Team to play Wales and Scotland. This has been an ambition of mine for quite some time so I really hope to qualify at the Nationals at the end of the month. E, +1 2nd
  • Camp/Event
  • 2017 EG Boys County Championships - Midland Qualifying (Team) - Daily Telegraph Qualifier
  • 5/30/17 to 5/31/17
  • This is where I really started to find my form and show promise for the 2017 season. In the first round, after a -1 front 9, I really pushed on through the back 9. I was hitting the ball great and the putter was behaving also. This lead to 2 birdies and an eagle on the back 9, meaning a first round score of -5. I backed this up with a second round score of +2; I was slightly disappointed by my putting through the last few holes however was delighted to finish T2 overall. -5, +2 T2
  • Camp/Event
  • European School Team Championships 2017
  • 2/11/17 to 2/15/17
  • This was a really different experience which really relies on a whole team all performing consistently. What I learnt from this tournament was actually how to battle through problems and show true grit and determination: on the morning of Round 2 I came down with food poisoning. However, I pushed through and, despite not playing my best golf, helped the team finish 8/22 teams.
  • Camp/Event
  • The 2016 Dixie Amateur
  • 12/15/16 to 12/18/16
  • A really good experience playing in a fairly strong field. After a solid first round, I was in a good position; I was swinging it great and playing smart, percentage golf. My pure ball striking continued through to Round 2, however it was the putter that let me down: 41 putts would prove very costly. It was a fun experience but one I can learn from and use for future tournaments where I need to maintain discipline for all aspects of my game. +2,+9 MC
  • Camp/Event
  • HMC Singles Chamionship 2016
  • 10/04/16 to 10/04/16
  • This is certainly one of my biggest tournaments representing my high school, with all the top players from independent schools in England participating. Despite a bogey-bogey finish, I was happy with a score of 73 in some tough conditions. This was good enough for 2nd place. With a 4th place finish the year before I'm determined to get the win at some point! +2 2nd
  • Camp/Event
  • Faldo Series England (South II)
  • 8/22/16 to 8/24/16
  • Despite struggles on the green, I hit the ball well enough to keep myself in the tournament and I carded three rounds of +4. A good experience for keeping my head when putts aren't going in. +4,+4,+4, 12th
  • Camp/Event
  • Seacroft Club Championship 2016
  • 8/13/16 to 8/13/16
  • As defending champion I felt slightly more pressure this year. I played very solid golf however simply couldn't get the putts to drop and I lost ground throughout the day on the eventual champion. Two rounds of +4,+4 to finish 2nd
  • Camp/Event
  • The Boys Amateur Championship 2016
  • 8/09/16 to 8/13/16
  • Another amazing experience on one of the greatest challenges of golf. Despite being in good position at Muirfield after 9, a few late dropped shots cost me and I finished +9 (with a birdie up 18!). A better round followed at Renaissance however late dropped shots cost me again; the tournament was one of the highlights of my career so far. +9,+6 MC
  • Camp/Event
  • North West of England Links Amateur Championship 2016
  • 8/06/16 to 8/07/16
  • A brilliant tournament on two outstanding courses. On each location I had one strong and one weak round and learnt a huge amount about my game on links in tough conditions. +12,+2,+4,+14 (CSS +3@Hillside, +6@Birkdale)
  • Camp/Event
  • Luffenham Heath Club Championship 2016
  • 7/30/16 to 7/30/16
  • I was absolutely determined to become club champion this year as I lost out by 1 shot the year before. Despite a poor 78 in the first round, I pulled back with a 69 second round to get into an 18 hole playoff. This playoff resulted in a tie and so another playoff was played. I started poorly and was 5 shots back on the front 9 however I rallied a 33 back 9 and birdied the last to beat my opponent by 1; a highlight of my season. +8, -1, +3
  • Camp/Event
  • English Men's Amateur Championship 2016
  • 7/25/16 to 7/30/16
  • This was one of the biggest events of my season; I was certainly nervous. The putter was cold again, not because of 3 putts but simply a lack of holing putts from 10/15 feet. A brilliant experience though and Ganton was a great challenge with nobody in the field breaking par on the first day! 84,80
  • Camp/Event
  • English Boys 2016 (Carris Trophy)
  • 7/19/16 to 7/22/16
  • A solid tournament. I hit the ball very well however always seemed to throw in a double or triple bogey in each round. I finished 52/144 and comfortably made the cut. +2,+6,+3,+3
  • Camp/Event
  • Scottish Youths Championship 2016
  • 7/11/16 to 7/13/16
  • In challenging conditions I had a good start to round 1 however finished 6-6 which damaged my chances. In round 2, I hit the ball consistently as usual however the putter was cold. I missed the cut by 2 with a T54 finish. +6,+3.
  • Camp/Event
  • Midland Youths Championship 2016 (Kymin Trophy)
  • 7/05/16 to 7/07/16
  • An interesting tournament for me!! Despite finding fairways and greens all the way round, I had 41 PUTTS in round 1, leading to a 79 which would leave me work to do. Despite a slightly better round 2 of 74, I would miss the cut and go on to shoot another 74 in round 3. A good learning curve for composure and putting with patience. +9, +4,+4
  • Camp/Event
  • Regional Open Qualifying
  • 6/20/16 to 6/20/16
  • A really disappointing result however an amazing experience playing with top pros and a priceless learning curve for the future. 84
  • Camp/Event
  • Fairhaven Trophy 2016
  • 4/29/16 to 5/01/16
  • A very challenging course. A disappointing bogey-bogey finish to round 2 however still finished tied 35th out of 144 players. I certainly learnt about maintaining focus throughout the entirety of the round. +6,+4
  • Camp/Event
  • Independant Schools' Golf Association Cup 2015
  • 10/12/15 to 10/12/15
  • This was one of my best results from 2015. In some fairly tough conditions, I played some tidy golf and although the course was playing very long, I managed to grind out a +4. I felt as if I was out of the competition towards the end of the round; I kept fighting and it somehow paid off. CHAMPION 2015
  • Camp/Event
  • North of England U16 2015
  • 8/19/15 to 8/20/15
  • An unlucky draw meant I had a true battle in round 1 with a downpour of rain. Despite a +3 second round, I narrowly missed the cut. Still...55/144! +13,+3
  • Camp/Event
  • Luffenham Heath Club Championship 2015
  • 8/11/15 to 8/11/15
  • Two fairly average rounds of 75 gave me a second place finish 2015 club championship. +5,+5
  • Camp/Event
  • Seacroft Club Championship 2015
  • 8/10/15 to 8/10/15
  • My highlight of my 2015 season with a solid (+1) 72 in the morning and a (-5) 66 in the afternoon to win the club championship. +1,-5
  • Camp/Event
  • St Andrews Boys Open 2015
  • 8/01/15 to 8/03/15
  • A solid qualifying round of 72 put me in 12th place going into the matchplay. Despite a first round loss it was a great learning curve...+2
  • Camp/Event
  • Scottish Boys U16 Open Stroke Play Championship 2015
  • 6/30/15 to 7/02/15
  • With fairly easy conditions, scores were strong with -15 winning and +4 being the cut. I finished T41/144, not quite playing my best golf. E,+4,+5,+5
