Baseball has been a passion since I was young and Golf since middle school. I realized they are a way I could play a sport I loved while being surrounded by like minded people. Now in high school I have realized my passion for baseball and golf can be used as a vehicle to further advance my educational aspirations as well as still being able to compete and enjoy the sports enjoy.
One attribute I bring to the baseball field is knowing all of the positions and what goes on, because I have played all of the positions at one time or another throughout my baseball career. That is beneficial, especially behind the plate and in the outfield, having the knowledge of what my teammates will do in certain situations - therefore I can be prepared for what is going to happen. One of the biggest athletic challenges I was able to overcome included freshman year when my family moved into a new school district. During that time I had to make a name for myself and prove that I belonged in the baseball program. I started off the year being told by everyone in the school that I would have no chance at the starting catcher position. Through hard work and practices, when the first game of the season came around, I was the starting catcher and would be throughout the rest of the season.
Golf has always been a sport I played with my friends, parents and grandfather just for fun. As I got closer to high school, I was getting better, decided to try out for the golf team my freshman year and ended up making the JV team. I worked hard on my game throughout the winter and ended up making the Varsity team my sophomore year working my way up to the 4 spot (out of 6) by the end of the season only to see it cut short by a broken finger right before districts. My Junior year was very successful, playing mostly 3/4 spot, becoming a tournament medalist for the first time along with our team winning tournaments, success at Sectionals and advancing to Districts for the first time in school history. I started playing in Junior PGA events and local tournaments this fall.
My greatest influence in everything I do, how I act and how I conduct myself, would be my parents. The thing they have done the most for me is they have given me endless support in everything I do from school to sports. In my younger years they gave me opportunities to play in little league, USSSA and local Junior PGA events to make me a better player and prepare me for high school and college. They also encouraged me to try many different sports and other activities such as basketball and tennis.
At this point my major is undecided and I am keeping an open mind until I find what best suits in the future. I am looking forward to finding the school that is the right fit for me academically and athletically.
