I started consistently playing golf three summers ago. I knew immediately that it was my passion. Since that time, I have committed myself to improving through practice and regular playing time so that I can play golf at the collegiate level.
At my high school, 9th graders are allowed to try out for Varsity, but most play on the 9th grade team. I was one of three 9th graders that tried out and was able to make the JV team as a freshman. Since trying out for the Varsity team as a freshman, my scores have improved from mid to high 90s to mid to low 70s. I am continuing to improve, and I believe my improvement is due to my commitment to hard work, practice and learning through videos, reading material and private coaching. I am a leader both on and off the course and I encourage my fellow team members to strive to do better. I have a strong knowledge of the game of golf and I am willing to be coached and learn more ways to improve.
I also work hard in the classroom. Our high school coach has taught us that education comes before extracurricular activities. Although I missed nine full days of class for high school golf meets, I have been able to maintain a high GPA and complete my schoolwork. I enjoy golfing with younger kids to help them improve. I am also volunteering at my country club junior golf camp this summer and planning to work at the public golf course.
I am looking to find a college that will meet both my educational and golf goals so that I can succeed in both areas of my life.
