Hi, I'm Isaac Martin.
I play golf at Cascade Junior/Senior High School in Iowa. I never liked golf until I picked it up in my freshman year, and long story short I fell in love with the game right away. My competitive nature lead me to get better very quickly. After just a few weeks of playing, I qualified for our JV team and shot 52 (9 holes) in my first ever meet.
Obviously, because of the pandemic, my sophomore season was canceled and I was forced to work on my craft at home and play without coaching during the Spring. Because of this factor, I have very little official scoring information, which is why I can't have any coach verify the stats I have posted on my profile so far. Since the end of golf season in my freshman year, I've made en effort to better my game by taking lessons, reading literature from great coaches, comparing my swing to the world's best, and self diagnosing problems by identifying my common misses. My swing has tremendously improved, and I can now shoot in the low 40s on 9 holes consistently - and that's only when I'm playing about once every week. I'm still improving as I continue to do the drills my coaches prescribed for me. Once the season gets going and I'm playing every day and I get my short game in line, I have no doubt that I can be a great college golfer.
What sets me apart from a lot of recruits is my rate of improvement. While many of my peers have been playing since they were kids, I have made huge improvements in just a couple years of playing. This really goes to show that I have a great work ethic, dedication, and that I have desire to understand the problems with my ball flight, knowing what causes those problems, and then making adjustments accordingly. Not only do I enjoy improving at golf, but I also have a strong dedication to my academic studies. As I am writing this, my GPA stands at 3.96. I have easily made high honor roll each year of high school and I work hard to maintain my GPA. Another reason I will be a tremendous addition to a college team is that I have a 100% team-first attitude. I also play basketball, and my coaches always talk about the power of we being greater than the power of me. They want selfless, team first guys rather than "clowns" who seek attention and only want what is best for themselves. I have learned this lesson the hard way, as I always used to be a regular starter, but as I've gotten older my role has diminished into being a bench player. Instead of quitting, giving up, whining about my role, or any other "clown" move, as my coaches say, I go to practice every day, play hard, and be supportive of my teammates. In college, if things don't go my way, I will just use what I learned in basketball: control what I can control, play my best, and be a good teammate.
Coaches, thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you.
