Personal Statement

My goal from a very young age is too play college golf. From there I would like to play professionally or wherever golf takes me. I feel I would be a great teammate because I have a very positive outlook and my work ethic is very strong. My goal is to improve at something each day. I feel if I am not getting better then I am getting worse. I want to play for a team and a coach that pushes me to be the best at golf and school. I have tremendous experience at playing all over the country on all types of golf courses, not just the Midwest. I have competed in over 100 junior events at the highest levels of golf outside of my high school season. AJGA, FCWT, HJGT , Optimist Worlds and many more....I was a 3rd team FCWT All- American in 2015 and Plantations Tour 2nd team All American in 2014. I was also MVP for high school varsity golf all three seasons so far. I also hold the 9 hole school record 33 (-3) and the 1st, 2nd and 5th season school record low stroke average. Named Athlete of The Week Nov 2017 by 107.5 FM.

I raised over $13,500 for the AJGA Leadership Links program to help raise money and awareness for ASAC (Alcohol and Substance Abuse Council) in the memory of my brother, Seth who passed away from an overdose 10/4/2016. As a top fundraiser I had the opportunity to play 9 holes of golf with Rickie Fowler on 11/16/2017 in Jupiter Island, Florida.

I work hard at my academics and understand the value of a good education. I wish to major in engineering or finance in college. I really enjoy teaching young kids about golf and appreciate that I can be a good role model as others were to myself. My best golf is ahead of me and I am very excited to be a part of a competitive golf program....Thanks, Ian Johnston

I birdied 4 of my last 6 to comeback and win by 1. I was Day 1 leader with a +2 (73) and finished with a +1 (72). Overall score +3 (145). I had 5 birdies in my final 11 holes to win. Proud of my focus as I was +4 with 7 to go. I have won twice now at this event.

I shot -1 (71) final Rd. This was the 3rd best score of the day. Over 20 college committed players. I finished 28th out of 71 players. I improved each Rd-81,77,71= 228 or 76.3 average. Course played 7067 yards with rating 74.4 and slope 138. had 9 birdies overall. I finished +4 my last 36 holes after going +9 my first 18...

I WON again with a 151 overall score (+7). This is my 2nd HJGT win in my last 4 starts. I had 5 birdies Rd 1 and shot the lowest round of the weekend with an even par 72. I had to make a 9 ft Par putt on the last hole to win! I am proud of my focus. I was +6 on 2 holes ( 2 triples) and +1 the other 34..I have finished in the top 5 in 5 of my last 6 competitive events..

I shot even par (72) which was low round of the 2nd day and 2nd lowest for the weekend. Unfortunately I shot 80 Rd 1 but ended up 5th place out of 56 players. I had 4 birdies final round. I was real proud of my focus Rd 2. I had 3 birdies my last 8 holes to make top 5.

I finished 2nd out of 38. 73,69=142..I finished -4 my last 31 holes after going +2 after 5. Temps were in high 20's/low 30's...I was -3 (69) Rd 2 which was lowest round of the tournament. I got 2nd by 1 shot. Very pleased with my process! 6 birdies overall..Bogey free Rd2

I shot 75 and finished 7th out of 83 kids to make playoff. I made par but birdie won. I was +3 after 8 with a lost ball double. I finished +1 the last 10 holes. Very please with my focus and making the playoff. Better luck next time! I love playing in Florida!

I shot 75,75 for a 150. Finished 14th out of 48 in 16-18 year old bracket. I beat a number of good college commits. I had 5 birdies day 1 and 7 overall. Greens were slower as I have been playing fast greens all winter in Florida. Overall very pleased with my progress.

I finished 5th out of 53 in 14-18 bracket. I shot +8 (221) for 54 holes which is a 73.6 average. My -1 (70) Rd2 was the 2nd best score of the day. I was +6 after 6 (2 doubles) rd 3 but went +1 the next 12 holes to finish strong. I beat 2 kids committed to Big Ten Schools by 5 shots. I led tourney in most pars (42) and longest bogey free streak (18 holes)..

I WON the tournament by 2 shots. Day 1 I shot 74 (+2) and day 2 I shot 73 (+1). My overall score was 147 (+3). I had 4 birdies day 2. I started the tournament +2 after 3 holes and shot even par the next 33 holes. There were 57 players in 14-18 age bracket. I had the lowest round of the tourney day 2. Great tourney! Played at 6675 yards with a slope of 135.

I shot +2 (73) day 1 ( Copperhead Course) which was the 2nd lowest round of the day. I was in 2nd place. I had 28 putts day 1. Putted poorly last 2 rounds and finished 16th out of 72 overall. Overall great experience-Love playing in Florida! 6800 Yards, slope 139, rating 73.1. Very tough course. 234 overall score 3 rounds

I finished 2nd overall out of 65 kids. I shot -2 (70) day 1 with 7 birdies. I was -4 last 6 holes. My overall score was 148 winner was 144. My 70 was lowest round in the 2 day event. Key highlights- 5/5 sand saves, averaged 28 putts per round with zero three putts, 9 birdies overall. Great tourney with very bad weather last 9 holes.

4A State Tournament Championships

Our team, qualifying for the first time in school history finished 10th. I finished 12th overall individually. I had a score of 148 (77,71). Winning score was 142. My final round 71 was the 2nd lowest round of the day and the 4th lowest round of the tourney. 70 was the low round final day shot by Iowa State commit Brock Barnhart. Just like districts I finished very strong. I had 4 birdies overall final day and was -3 my last 5 holes. I made 2nd Team All Tourney ....I missed 1st Team by a stroke. Overall great experience for our team!

I birdie 4 of the last 6 holes to shoot 75 ( +3) and we made State for the first time in School history!!! I started slow but really focused as I new we were close to qualifying. I made a 15 ft birdie on 18 and that was the deciding stroke as we qualified by 1 stroke. Overall great team effort. I finished 6th overall out of 14 teams. Low score was 71.

I finished 4th overall in the Mississippi Valley Conference. 7 teams competed. My 3 round total was 220 ( 73.3 average). I made 1st Team All Conference. 3 shots off runner-up. I improved by 19 strokes from last year when I was 2nd Team.

I shot 71 and finished 4th out of 48 golfers. I had 2 birdies and 1 eagle on the day. I am currently in 2nd place overall after 2 of 3 meets. My score is 143 ( 72,71). I am only 3 off the lead. I am 13 shots better than last years scores after two rounds.

I shot 77 and finished 4th out of 42 golfers. I finished 3rd last year. Very windy and tight course.. tough conditions. Only 8 golfers broke 80. I was up 1 overall ( +3) with two holes left but found trouble and did not finish strong. 74 was the low score. Brock Barnhart, an Iowa State commit shot 75 and got 2nd. I had 4 birdies on the day.
