My love for golf started when I was ten years old and in the 5th grade. One swing of the club, the ball flying perfectly through the air and I was hooked. It was my first middle school match in Abbeville, Louisiana. I remember it like it was yesterday; Hole 3, par 3. I hit an eight iron one hundred and eight yards that took one hop and went in the hole. Although my score showed a double bogey for the hole, the shot was all 'eagle" for me. Ever since that day in February 2010, I knew I wanted golf in my life. I also knew that in order to succeed with my passion, I also had to succeed academically so that my parents would support my "golf life. " I committed myself to working hard on and off the course. I am dyslexic and knew that I would have to work harder than most to do what I needed to excel academically. I was willing to put in the extra time for studies as well as on the driving range and the putting green. You see, the same lessons that make a good golfer great are the same lessons that helped to drive me academically. I practiced and studied and studied and practiced for both golf and my schoolwork. My passion for the game and the life lessons it has taught me have guided and molded my life.
I am now a senoir in high school and the desire and drive that I have for the game and to succeed academically has only grown stronger.
