My name is Andrew Slatten and I will be starting my senior year at Hibbing High School in Hibbing, MN. This is will be my 4th year on my high school golf team. As a sophomore, I went to the 2023 MN State High School Golf Tournament as an individual player. I was also awarded a spot on the All-Conference team. I was able to make it again this past season as an individual player to the 2024 MN State High School Golf Tournament and finished 26th.
I started playing golf when I was 14. Before I joined the golf team, I played hockey and baseball. I really enjoyed those sports but once I started learning the game of golf, I put all my focus on working on my game. Last year my goal was to get to the state tournament. I practiced and worked hard to accomplish my goal. I have continued to work hard to improve my game. This past winter, I lived with relatives in Oklahoma for several months so I could golf during the winter months. I also had some private golf lessons at the Patriot Golf Club in Owasso, OK. Over the winter, I was able to improve my score by 5 strokes. I was also able to improve my mental game as I gained confidence by playing difficult courses.
I am currently taking PSEO courses at our local community college. This program allows high schools students who meet eligibility requirements to earn college credits while they are still in high school. I was able to take these classes online so that I could spend time golfing out of state in the winter months. I have been able to get A’s and B’s in my college courses while still focusing on my golf game. I am goal oriented and driven. I look forward to golfing in college and I know that I would work hard and be an asset to your team.
