My name is Landon Dematti and I am a high school varsity golfer. I've been on the varsity level since I joined the team in 9th grade, progressing my skill over the years. I made all-conference my sophomore year, and most recently got 4th overall in the conference for this season as a junior. I have been involved in hockey since I was three years old, and baseball from fourth through ninth grade, but I never had the amount of passion to play those sports at the next level more than golf. I enjoyed hockey and baseball, but I really enjoy the individuality of golf, and the feeling that I can never stop improving as long as I keep on swinging!
I attended my first golf camp in 4th grade, but I have been swinging a club since I was about five years old. Some of my fondest memories of golf are from when I was younger and I would ride around with both of my grandfathers and my dad and just do the simple things like chip and putt around the green with them out on the course. One of the things I enjoy about golf the most is the fact that as I have gotten better, the game has become more challenging. It requires both skill and mental strength, and I love it.
I would love to move on to the next level of play for golf after I graduate high school for many reasons. The first one being that golf is the sport that I love most, and I am always looking to get better, and experiencing golf along with college sounds like the situation I would love the most. The second reason being that I feel like I can never stop getting better as long as I play the sport. Another reason being that golf requires both mental strength, and skill along with it. The last reason being that golf requires a lot of good sportsmanship. I've personally found in my years playing that as long as you play by the rules, and treat the people in your playing group nicely, you are bound to have at least a fun round, even if it isn't a good one. That is what keeps me going back to the course every day I can; to keep improving along with having a good time.
