I am Alex Marchetti, 2024 golfer from Hillsborough High School, NJ. I have been playing golf for about 12 years and competitively now for about 8 years. I love every aspect of the game, but competing stands out the most to me. I have loved all sports my entire life and believe what separates me from other recruits is that I would consider myself an athlete as much as a golfer. While I have made the decision to drop other sports and focus on just golf, to pursue playing in college, I still carry the work ethic, mindset, attitude, and life lessons I obtained along the way. My muscle memory built up from other sports allows me to learn the game much faster. I love the pressure and thrive in more competitive environments, I am always looking to make practice into competitions, and yet at the same time am able to remain cool, calm, and collected no matter the circumstances.
While playing other sports in my youth helped in so many ways, it also in some ways delayed my initial development as a golfer. It's a point of great pride for me that I've been able to improve consistently year over year to what I believe currently is an elite level of golf (1.2 handicap, 74 tournament scoring average for Summer 2023). And I know that improvement will continue over the coming years.
Off the course, I have also persevered academically, despite a diagnosed learning challenge called convergence insufficiency. This challenge has made it necessary for me to work harder and develop stronger study habits which I believe will help me succeed at the college level. Overall, I have been forced to push through to get things done no matter what, and have still managed to remain at a high level academically.
